Wonder where my old Sedan Delivery is. Traded it to the late Al Casteen @Hamtown Al 6 years ago for my '36 Cabriolet.
Al sold it to a guy that took it to Calif.

Oh yeah, what it looked like when Al sold it (greenless)...Al did a lot of really great mechanical upgrades, but made it kind boring looking IMHO:rolleyes:.

My old roadster...very cool to see. The new owner is now a friend since he purchased the car. Nothing but the fluids changed in 3 years. It now lives in Edmonton.

Sold in May of 22. I believe it went to North Carolina. It showed up on marketplace last year and has disappeared. Snowman ⛄️ BF44E516-24D0-4064-B34A-7C56114F14B0.jpeg

    Hello,

One day I had the 1940 Ford Flathead Sedan Delivery in the front row parking space at Huntington Beach Pier. It was on PCH in front of the Golden Bear Restaurant/rock music venue. It was a great place to stop on our southern road trips to check out the surf. If it was good, then we stayed until dark. If it was OK, then we continued the trip South to Dana Point and Camp Pendleton.

Here is one of the best photographs of the popular location in our old surfing days of 1960-65. It shows a few friends with their 1934 Ford Sedan. And, the hot rod guy with the Clay Smith Jacket and his 61 Chevy Impala, probably a 409.
    upload_2025-8-11_5-15-36.png
It was one of the premier parking spots in the most wanted choices. Why? Well, if you parked here, one could see the ocean and surf break on the south side during the year. You could tell where the swell was coming from out there and what size the waves were. So, one would make the decision to stay or head south to other surf spots. Newport Beach, Dana Point, San Clemente, Etc. That added another 30 minutes to an hour to get to the surf spots and check each one out. But, we were always early enough to be able to get into the best waves, someplace and still not be crowded.

At Huntington Beach, those parking spots are a rarity as they get taken up fast. When we drove by early in the morning, they were empty. But, in an hour, they were almost full and one had to go down to the beach level parking lot. Which was fine as it was closer to the waves, but difficult to see.

One of those parking on top days, I had already told some kids that my Flathead Sedan Delivery was for sale. The guy in the middle was one of the surfers that wanted to buy it, but for him, any cost was too much. In that photo, the guy who bought it had a surf shop on the Main Street behind the Ford Sedan. The old buildings were the original ones from back many years earlier and had not been upgraded to the standards we all know of today. They were old shops just converted to surf shops, small cafes and clothing stores for the visitors to this beach town on PCH. Today, it is almost unrecognizable...

My old flathead powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery was always parked in the same or similar spot as the 34 Ford Sedan. It was the best location to sit and watch the waves down below on the shoreline. If it was good and hardly no one was out, then we would all go surfing all day at the pier surf spots.
upload_2025-8-11_5-25-9.png It was a good spot to have a car for sale. The word got back to the owner of the close surf shop and that is where we were talking about the sedan delivery and price. Of all things, I knew the guy who wanted to buy my Ford Sedan Delivery.

A photo of a photographer. Look at the clothes... No more dark blue nylon jacket and dark Levis. Those were switched to faded Levis and a light Ocean Green nylon jacket for all things So Cal beach lifestyle. The buzz cut was an after the high school football season growing out stage...

After being home from college, as the wandering person goes down the Main Street to visit the shops, I approached the surf shop where I saw my old flathead 40 Ford Sedan Delivery parked out in front with the owner of the shop telling stories about how he built the hot rod surf truck to his “minions.” The stories were outrageous, but he had a following due to owning the surf shop. Back 5 years earlier, he had come over to our Westside of Long Beach house to buy my brother’s home made 9 foot 6 surfboard. He had never been on one in his life, but wanted to get started.

He grew up in Bellflower and was a short distance away from our house. He asked us at the HB pier if we knew of a surfboard for sale. When we reached a deal for the blue surfboard, he wanted to go to our house to buy it right then and there. Now, that was his first surfboard and 5 years later, he was still not a good surfer, but now owned a popular surf shop right in the middle of the Huntington Beach’s Main Street shops.

Several years later, the sedan delivery was gone and no longer sitting out in front of his shop. So, no more made up stories that would take on a life of their own… YRMV

So, where is that Flathead powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery that had an unusual paint job that was supposed to be racer orange, but ended up a “Salmon Pink?” Probably gone to the auto museum in the sky… ha!

  19. That was a good looking roadster Dave.

I honestly believe people change the cars enough no one can lell the difference if they are standing beside their old car. HRP

All my "I wonder where they went" cars are OT for here. But, I still go searching every now and then. Main one I kick myself for selling was the one I got when I was 12 and was the father/son project. It was 2 years too new for here, but is the one I would like to have back someday. However, guessing it is way out of my price range at this point.

I built my T ca 1969. Sold it in the mid-'70s.
Thirty years later I saw it at the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green. First thing I thought was "Thank God nodody died in that thing."
The current owner denied I had anything to do with that car and said his buddy built it. Go figure.

I've just realised mine is thankfully still in my garage, just where I left it!

I expect I'll be buried in it eventually, but my son might substitute it with some pics and hope I don't notice! 20240125_145156.jpg
