“Time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again.”

    Hello,

My wife and I grew up in So Cal. Yes, that place that gets a lot of flack. But, for us, after learning how to get along with each other and then adapting to the society that was in a tizzy, we worked together through thick and thin.

Sometimes we wish it were back in our 20s when we were beginning. It was an interesting time for us and we are able to document most of how it affected us. We look back to those times in our memories, but the photos we shot give us a clear picture of what we did to enjoy life as we did. An old Red El Camino for those long road trips, the budget that made us reevaluate what was important and family through the years.

The times were such that in the beginning, people with cameras were looked at, as intruders. So, a lot of what we did and where we went was not recorded. I wished I could have used my telephoto lens to get some great shots of the activities in and around So Cal back then. But, at least, the photos we did have or take, just brings back those clear moments at that time.

Here we are beyond our 60 year high school graduation times. It was a great time to develop and see the world through young eyes. Going off to college was great, as we all want to be able to live away from home. The folks I met as roommates and next door neighbors will last a lifetime of memories.

But, in looking back, we are now all “old folks.” So, what we remember from back then to now is fleeting, but still scratching the brain for more details. The 20-30 something action is gone, but the memories still flow on our journals. YRMV

    Note:

Here are two of my old friends and one is still with me as close as a drawer away. It still functions well, needs some color slide film and off we go, again… It is a little sad that it is taking a back seat to our digital cameras and phones.

It does not matter what type of camera one has, recorded history is simple today. But 50 years from now, those photos will re-tell a story or set of stories for all of our families to enjoy. Endless memories just sitting in our flash drives and external hard drives for the next generation.

Carter's Little Liver Pills. I think the drug administration made them drop liver as they said it had no effect on the liver.

"The best revenge is a life well-lived."
"That's the best revenge of all: happiness. Nothing drives people crazier than seeing someone have a good simple life."

    Hello,

My wife and I somehow got on the same page during our last two college years. We enjoyed being with each other and it was more important to make things work together. So, it ended up with another old saying, it was “us against the world.” That included our own family’s old ways and ideas that no longer melded with our way of thinking. The family gatherings, if they did happen were short and a little tense.

We were not the suit and tie group or fancy dresses as a way to impress, group. We just were simple folks and were happy. Perhaps, that was what made most folks we met irritated. We were actually happy being together and our lives moved on with a mellow attitude.

The high dollar fancy foreign cars, the staying at the Hilton resorts for vacations, and a rather large house with so many rooms that one never knew where the other would be at any time. I guess that was made for such ideas. We just had a simple low cost, low key life. We enjoyed the So Cal coastal beach lifestyle with no fancy goods in the horizon. The life allowed us to get by and live a fun, but simple life. That has gone on for all of these years… YRMV
upload_2025-8-8_3-1-14.png The oddball out at a family wedding parking lot, despite the idea that I was the family photographer. We got some looks and comments from others that just flew over our heads. We arrived in a rumbling 327 and A/C comfort, too. The back cave held the photo equipment, but with the looks, comments and stares, I only had the two strapped 35mm cameras, one with Ektachrome slides and the other B/W film.

So, how does that work out at family gatherings? Well, the number of full events with all portions of the extended family have dropped off quite radically. Which is good. Now, they are off on their own world and ideologies that most do not agree with for everyone. But, they think so. Hot rods, no way. Surfing lifestyle, no way, a large house still rules and so do big cars. For us, a simple way to live in a small house that makes us happy and satisfied...

That is the way it is and the way it goes…
