IMG_5765.jpeg Yeah this is my son with the Merc. He is 15 and loves kustoms. I let him drive my 51 Merc through the fairgrounds in Salina at the Leadsled Spectacular.

  5. I'll be darned, that B post is leaned a bit. Didn't look that way in the first photos. I'd still buy it if I was first in line.

After it was green for about a year the old Merc got another makeover. This time in red and at that time the door handles, and truck were shaved as well as the addition of some unity spotlights.

That color combination must have popular. My 1950 Crestliner looks like the same colors and my car was from Southern Missouri

Wow, Dave. Sooo kool. I'm so happy for you. Assume that the tires are 20 years old too?? Not cheap, but really should be replaced if you're gonna drive it.

Thanks for sitting and visiting at the hotel parking lot in Salina. Nice to meet your son. Not that you said anything about this Merc being "his" car, but he sure looks good standing next to it. Now, what to do with his 4x4 Chevy?

Sell it and talk Dad out of the new Merc!

  20. So cool Dave!! A great companion to your '51. Bonus that you have the full history. I have the build pics of mine, I just don't know who took them or who did the work. Haha!

Very tastefully done and she cleaned up great!

Post some interior and engine pics.
Do you know what year/month magazine it was published. Maybe someone here can share some scans...

IMG_7248.jpeg IMG_7249.jpeg IMG_7250.jpeg IMG_7251.jpeg IMG_7252.jpeg IMG_7253.jpeg Hey guys thanks for all the cool messages! If you’ve seen me out at shows I always have my son with me so he will be enjoying the Mercury right there with me for sure.

Ok here is when Gene got serious with making the Mercury a kustom. He had Custom Jim in St. Louis mold the front end, mold and french in Buick taillights, add Buick side trim, louvered hood, frenched headlights. And painted it purple over silver. I believe this was 76-77.

Some of you might remember Custom Jim as his kustom 1960 Impala won Koolest Full Kustom Kemp at the 1983 Leadsled Spectacular. Jim is responsible for the kustom work on my Merc.
