I know Ken. In 1980 a group of neighbors were headed to Yakima and one car had a 4 bar suspension failure on the I5 bridge. Ken happened by and helped them limp to his home garage where he devised a temporary fix that got them to Yakima and home. He befriended the group and attended several of Reflections early Rod Runs. I haven't spoken to or seen him in decades, but a friend recently did some work on a two seat, street legal sprint car for him. I hate when two friends, acquaintance's have problems. I consider John and Ken both talented fabricators and hot rodders. It's unfortunate that Ken pulled a "wheeler dealer" scam.

HMMMMM that happened to a friend once .
Seems it created all sorts of bad Karma because shortly after the low life POS had his entire shop burn to the ground with all the parts he ripped off in it . Oddly the buddy was out of town that day . Karma and pay back is a bitch.

I never let anything leave unless paid for a its a very good friend and I never pay for anything unless I can take it with me then .
Sorry you got screwed over I'm sure they will have there own story to tell know .

I don't believe in karma cause it only happens in a perfect world where good things for good people and bad things for bad which we all know doesn't always happen. I am a firm believer in you reap what you sow. I also learned the hard way when I sold a classic truck and took cash without making sure the ownership was out of my name only to find out the guy I sold it to resold it forging my name years later on the ownership.

  7. That reads weird. Why would you take Cash on a sale handing over the Title and not sign it? In the event that did happen and years later when he sold it signed your name the only thing I find odd is that he didn't go transfer title at the time finding the title not signed and come straight back for you to fulfill your obligation. I don't see a scam in that at all.

Another person sending them to you reminds me of my late friend. A car friend neighbour down the street was having some work done on his property and the construction workers took a keen interest in his garage. Without asking, he brought the guys to my friend's garage to show them around. My friend reluctantly did. He had a cool garage with 2 classic cars and had an extensive collection of automotive clocks and a handful of neon signs.

A few days later (after the construction was done at the neighbors), someone breaks into his garage and steals one of the neon signs and nothing else.

This is unfortunately why I don't let anyone onto my property and into my garage that wasn't invited by me personally.

Even for selling, I don't let people in, I only show them what they need to see.

Karma? Again? It's time since I haven't said it in a while. Karma is a cop out. It's lazy. Karma is over the top of your bathroom sink looking at you. Fuck Karma, YOU are Karma. This DOES NOT ADVOCATE VIOLENCE. I want that to be crystal clear. Karma sent the guy and his car outta my life. Karma redirected my efforts and plans moving forward. Karma has even been law enforcement a time or 2. Did I say Fuck Karma? Well there it is again. Where's my fuckin 11/16...;)

  11. Most people in the car world are good but there are always a few-

I had a guy who wanted to buy a 51 Chevrolet hardtop I had to build a street freak, At some point someone had point a Chevy truck axle however I made sure he knew the car was very rough I it fact told him “It is stock car body, and the frame is junk.”

He insisted he wanted it and was going to build it, so the deal was made a time and date were set for him come with the cash and to pick it up.

The plan was he was to be at my house at 8:00 A.M. on a Saturday. Eight comes and goes he isn’t there no phone call so at 9:30 A.M. I called him.

He told me his father had a medical issue and he was hooking the trailer up and would be there at 12 noon, that time comes and goes another no show no call. Again I call him he told me he got a call form his mother who needed him to run errands, and I was a little steamed that he hadn’t given me a phone call but gave him the benefit of the doubt given what he had told earlier and offered him a chance to do it another time

He said no and was heading right out and would be at my house by 2:00 P.M.
Another four hours passes and he has not shown nor has he given me a phone call and by this point I and mad.

I called a few friends of mine to see if any of them know the guy and this is his standard operating procedure, he makes arrangements to buy cars that he doesn’t have the money for then calls everyone he knows to let him borrow the money.

Finally at 8:00 P.M. my phone rings it is him telling me he is heading my way, I lit into him that he lives 2 hours away that he won’t be at my house until 10:00 at night at that he was supposed to be in my driveway 12 hours ago!
That he had wasted my Saturday and the car was no longer for sale to him!

However he tells everyone he sees that I backed out a deal and make promises I don’t keep.

Luckily, he has done his enough times to enough people that his story is not believed.

Don't know him, never met him. Sorry the OP got stung but hopefully lesson learned. I try not to be cynical and distrust people but I have been taken advantage of by car guys, some that I thought were my friends. It is unfortunate but a reality. I am not a "forgive and forget Christian". Oh, I'll forgive, but you bet your bottom dollar I won't forget the names of those that stung me.

And of Karma? I dated her for a while 30 years ago. Cute as hell but she is one mean bitch when she gets riled.

  13. @USMercUte are you going to answer this question? Did the deposit cover the parts taken or not? It's one thing to not come back for more when you said you would but still paid for what you took vs taking stuff you didn't fully pay for.

Thanks for naming them. Since this isn't far from me or our area, I'll keep the names written down for future reference if anyone asks.

  15. Are you sure that the person named is actually the one who ripped you off? If I was a crook and got caught with my hands in the till I would say that I was Idi Amin, and you can look me up later. I have had clowns try this when trying to get out of motor accidents when it was their fault ("I don't have any I.D. on me, my dog ate my homework," excuses etc). Having a cell phone to take a photo and call the cops is very handy. You could be targeting someone who has had their identity stolen, not a nice thing at all. I still hope that the turds who did this to you get caught or at least get a severe headache out of it.

I'll go on record to say that generally speaking the majority of car folks are the best we ever encounter. Nothing else matters, it's the cars that glue us together. A few are silicone and no glue will ever bond to them. Their MO is established and means more. We know the buzzwords and shenanigans and do our best to let our closest know who the rats are trying to shag our stash. Again, and I'd guess the world over, car folks are the best. And in many cases not just about cars. Said what I said.

No the deposit didn't cover the items he took. My mistake.
