I know some say to remove the EDP coating to bare metal. I tested the EDP coating and it appears to be durable. What should I use to scruff the EDP coating and then apply paint?

If you're scuffing and want to go directly to paint. Like the jam areas on a DD/GG. Scuff with gray scotch bite.

If you're painting the exterior on a DD/GG, DA 320 ( with an interference pad ), seal, BC, CC.

If you're painting something nicer. DA 320 ( with an interference pad ), epoxy, 2K filler/surfacer, block sand, seal, BC, CC.

    That is a generalized procedure . . .

What you really need to do is consolidate all your questions that you’ve created individual threads for into one, maybe a build thread of what you’re building if it’s not off topic. I think you would get better results. Not trying to be rude, just giving you my honest opinion.

  4. Read the tech sheet for the product used first

painting directly over E -coat is a no no in my world. Nothing chips easier than paint directly over e-coat.

if no damage on the panel, I clean, sand with 320 followed by a red scuff pad then clean again.

seal with a proper sealer. If lots a bare metal after sanding, a DTM product needs used. (Direct to metal) again, read the tech sheeets for the products used
Then paint according to the tech sheet

I never primer over a shiny surface. Sand it, scuff it, get some traction.

I am going to ask you this again, maybe you will answer this time. What kind of car are you working on?
It would sure be far more productive and interesting for the members here helping answer your questions if you had a build thread with pictures showing what you are doing. it could be a thread where you could ask peoples opinions on how to do things rather than having dozens of individual threads asking for help on every possible step of a restoration

really? He actually said that? If that’s true he should just start a build thread in the off topic forum. 46 individual threads on every single detail of a restoration is ridiculous

or tell us what product you are using and we will read the tech sheet.

you get lots of questions answered by the tech sheet.

we don’t mind interpreting the tech sheet

What’s a tech sheet? I thought real hot rodders threw away the instructions.

  13. A product use sheet that answers 90% of the paint questions asked

    The other main question:
    What crap are you spraying.
    Torque specs for paint

without that info it’s kinda like asking what my timing should be and no other info given.
