have a complete 50 lincoln not sure i can finance the rebuild on the 337 flattie in it as well as the tranny. so i've located and bought a 74 lincoln with a 460 and c6 combo. i know a guy who used this very combo in his linc know it'll go. have front and rear springs ordered and in route. my plan is to use the engine trans combo and fab the mounts. also going to use the wiring harness for the 12v power as the wiring is shot and prolly wont work anyway. want to rebuild the drum brakes front and rear and parts are on the way for those as well.here's where im stuck- plan to use the steering colum and steering box out of the 74 linc if i can figure out how to mount it to the frame so i can have power steering . want to use the brake booster and dual master cyl if i can figure out how to mount it to the fire wall and proportioning valve as well. anyone ever do this before anyone see anything in my future that may cause me trouble doing this? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. i just dont want to go chevy on this project want it all ford/linc and dont have the extra to go disc brakes either will the drums work with the booster master combo? i think i'll hafta torch the frame and re box it in order for it to accept the steering box needs like a roundish divit for the steering box to work. HELLLLLP!!! PLEASE:confused:

Man dude if I lived near you I'd sure be willing to help you work through this project. I just don't know any specific problems that you may encounter. The 460/C6 is a good combo that should be a decent fit. If you have oil pan or exhaust manifold clearance problems there are truck parts around that will help you. BTW is that the Cosmo or the "baby" Lincoln. The good thing about this is the rearend, frame, radiator opening, and brakes should be more than adequate for normal street driving with the 460. Your primary concern can be focused on the engine swap itself.

its the baby lincoln i do know the 460 and trans will go i just want to know that if i rebuild the drums will they work ok with the booster and dual master cyl i mean they stopped the car before right? my only issue there is after i locate where to mount the booster will the pedals work for me outa the 74 linc its a mark 4 if that helps i just dont wanna buy the whole setup from jamco they wont sell just the bracketry. and as far as the steering box and colum go ive seen it done its just a mater of notching and reboxing the frame for the steering box right? here is the link for the car with the 460 and he did it i should be able to as well http://www.oldride.com/classic_cars/697714.html i have the exact same car but mine will be a little rattier chopped slammed and smothered in primer any pointers would be helpful and thanks for your input henry

Measure the width, if you are going to cut and rebox the frame, might be worth it to just use the whole front clip as a subframe on your car. I think the width is about the same, had a 75 Tbird here, and I think it was close. While you are at it, lose about 3" out of the frame length and put a Mercury front clip on it :)

was my plan to use the whole front but its too wide plus i already ordered the springs and shocks for the front with the 460 guess its way heavier than the origonal 337 no offense its so ugly i love it im contiplating keeping the linc front everyone has a merc or has done that swap just want to be different but thanks for the advice

Let me try and pull up some old files that a fella sent me. I was going to up grade a 50 canadian merc. He used the stock mercury front end and adapted a rack to it. That would solve the steering problem. I just put a firewall mounted brake booster on my 59 buick and it was originally under the floor.I bought a universal kit off of ebay. It's the one that has a booster, master cylinder and brake pedal mounted to a piece of channel that comes with the kit. Very easy to make fit. The files I have are just pictures but you'll get the idea. I'll need an email address to send to. TP

Using the engine/trans out of the 74 is a reasonable idea, but the steering column, power steering box, and brake assembly probably won't fit easily and defiently wont' look "right". It's worth taking the time and money to figure out a better way to do what you want.

You should be able to find a remote booster called a "HYDROVAC". They were used on a lot of trucks. Came in two sizes; the smaller one from half ton trucks would probably be the easiest to install. They go under the floor behind the master cylinder (actually they can be mounted almost anywhere since all they need is a vacuum line and a hydraulic line from the output side of the M.C.). With one of these you could keep your original pedal(s) and M.C.

Power steering can probably be accomplished fairly easily: Keep your stock column but cut the shaft and mate it (via a Borgesen joint) to the power gear out of the '74 (or some other gear if it's more convenient). Just make sure you rebuild the front end while you're changing springs-kingpins and bushings, control arm bushings, tie rod ends.

I think your biggest chore will be hanging the engine.
