Punctuation . isnt needed ! in the middle ? of a / sentance.

Anyway, a whipple charger would be cool (IMO) but it is untraditional in the traditional sense. 4-71's are way cool and if that seems too boring, work on running more boost. With a whipple alls you would to do is make an adapter to place it onto a blower manifold.

  3. id be interested in hearing about this too. 4-71''s are bringing bigger money these days as they regain thier popularity. be cool to consider some alternatives.

joe abin uses weind blowers with his kits. not as trad as the 4-71 in looks but I like them.

On the same topic, what about a Rootes blower off a TS3 diesel engine - I have a few of these and wondered if anyone has ever fitted one to a flatty?

No kidding. I think this might be how great ideas like this get their start.

Seriously - good luck. I like to look at any hot rodded flathead. And it sounds like to have the skills to make anything you'd need so...

I saw one of those on ebay , look`s like every thing is in the wrong spot ? neet looking pieces ! and would probly work good on straight 6`s or 8`s

  12. You can probably find an Eaton cheaper than a Whipple.
    http://www.capa.com.au/eaton_m90data.htm

More efficient than a Roots type.
If they are reliable enough for OEMs to warrantee,
    there shouldn't be a problem.

Just don't overdrive them too fast.

And try to stay "inside the box".

This is the hot blower ticket IMHO:

    http://www.vs57.com/

Back in the day, they had a kit specifically for flatties. You can buy a rebuilt one for *about* $800; figure you'll spend another grand getting the setup right - including a blow-thru carbie.

What's really neat about this specific blower is that it features a variable speed drive system - which means more boost is available down low.

As for the Eatons...either a 90 or a 112 will work, but the inlet is on the back of the blower - which makes for an oddball setup on a vintage flattie.

  14. A whipple may work good, but it is not any type of traditional appearance. The way they work is totally different then the roots type, 4-71, 6-71 etc. They suck in the back and compress as the the air/fuel mix goes forward until it dumps out at the bottom front position. I have one on my 92 Chevy dually with 454. Works fine, but it has no noise at all running off the serpentine belt. If you want the blower whine, better run a gilmer-type belt. Unless you are running a hood and do not want to show off your flathead, I would not recommend the Whipple, it just does not look right for a flathead, even if it does work good for making boost.

The only person that would use the word boring hasn't worked on them much. They will test you from time to time.Cracks pop up after months of work . Desining new parts to try out your ideas, fabing them and to try them is anything but boring.Even boring a flatmotor is not boring. Thoughs who know know, the rest give up and put a chevy in it.Lightweights.

Think he even OWNS a flathead??

Blower choice?? Well ... I'll stick with my S.C.o.T.
    But, Flatattack's looks interesting.

Black flag ! you made me! laugh! outloud!

Compressed air is compressed air. An old mcculloch unit would be cool too while we are kicking around ideas.

    That one looks interesting.
Am I right in saying the "outlet" is on the side?
If that was mounted on top of a flathead, then there could be some different (sidedraft) carbs incorporated.

That could be an interesting "out of the box" setup.

4-5 thousand dollars if i remember correctly. not an application for a street car either.
sure, anyone can SAY it can be done... but have fun doing it.

id just get a 4-71 if a nostaligic look is what you are after, they cant be anymore than a few hundred dollars for a usable core if you do your homework.

flatdog - IMO, anyone cocky enough to think flathead blower related anything is BORING doesnt know what they are talking about. i say have fun scattering parts all over the road ... if you can get it on the road in the first place! :)

I ment the challange, of fabracating somthing different ? I love the look of the 471 ! and now have a 371, a 471 , and a case for a 671v ! but would still entertain the thought of a whipple with two side drafts coming off the back on both sides ! just to be wierd ? and run a hood top , and open sides ! stelth like ? been runing the flathead in my coupe since 79 ! that car, and blower ,and motor, is a beautifull thing !!!!! and will probly wind up going that way ! I was just looking at all my options ! sorry if anyone took that the wrong way !

Kiwi salt team Hogan, Martin & Rea run a Whipple blower on their Flathead V8 34 roadster and ran 192mph at Bonneville this year. Would have made 200mph but the blower crapped out.....

You guys are bouncing all over the place. While the GMC is more massive and the others work, the cleanest installation with the most bang for the buck is the Road Runner Engineering Kit from Joe Abbot in New Mexico.
