Chrysler Mini Starters - what do you know??

I borrowed a Chrysler mini starter to see if it would fit into my digger and with some tweaking it seems very doable...... So my question is:

Which one do I get?? I see a zillion of them ranging from rebuilds for 50-60 bucks to NEW "race" starters well under a hundred all the way up to Summit's - one for $139 the other for $239

So what gives??? They all make similar claims to torque and such - I'm a cheap bastard by nature so I really need a reason to pony up any extra dough.

    What say you????

BTW my UltraBell kit supplied short bolts to mount the starter - yuk! So I modified these studs for easy install/removal.

I know three people that run the factory mini's on their King-Street cars and never looked back....
One guy got his from a 90's Dakota at the junk yard.

Ha Ha...all I know about the Mopar mini-starters is that you gotta watch how you ask for 'em! I went with a buddy of mine years ago to a local Dodge dealer and he asked the guy at the counter for the "lightweight starter" for his Super Bee. The guy just replied casually "We don't sell starters by weight". Ha Ha...I kept laughing the whole time my buddy was trying to explain that he wanted the compact starter for his 440!!!

  4. I have a factory high torgue mini starter on my 354 hemi, works perfect. Mid 90,s i believe.

'02 Dakota with a factory V8 if you go to the parts store. I bought mine brand new from Jegs for $145. Really nice piece from Mopar performance; lightweight, includes all necessary wiring and whatnot. It has a Denso motor too so it's a quality piece, no remanufactured junk. It will fit right into a SB, but for it to fit into a B/RB, you will need to trim the terminal maybe a half inch. Lots of cranking power and real reliable. I wasted 2 rebuilt original starters on my 383, then I put the Mopar mini starter in, never had a problem since

The way the wiring is layed out, they are a little wider then the "big" starter at the mounting bolt level. Puts the wire terminals pretty close to a set of headers on a 360.

The mopar "mini starter" is a nippodenso made starter. You can buy it from mopar performace for $150 with no warranty or you could buy it from your local parts place for $70 with a lifetime warranty. They dont fail. I always ask for a starter for a 1991 Dodge D150 2wd with a 318. That starter fits every thing from a /6 to a 440. I have one in every thing I own.
