My family has lived it since 1938, and I have lived it since birth! I have chased races and period correct hot rod events all over the east coast from and N.J. to Boston and become friends with the pioneers who built hot rods and racecars in the 40s, 50s and 60s! People who are N.H.R.A record holders (Flathead powered dragster in the early 60s), U.S. Nationals winners, NASCAR Champions, people who raced the high banks of Daytona. In fact I have more friends 20 to 40 years older than myself than I do my own age. When I give my option I state that it is my option not a fact! So, every Service Station own in the 50-70, guys like Frank Trinkaus from Fly Creek NY Trucking company, racecar/speed shop owner, Rene Charland (Four in a row NASCAR National Sportsman Champ and Iwo Jima raider, Steve Danish 1953 New York State NASCAR Sportsman Champ and tool and die maker, Pete Corey Body man WW II vet who faked his age to sign up woodchucks? Rene Charland- Steve Danish who's crew wore uniforms going back to the 1950s! Frank Trinkaus' cars Note Truck in background Frank standing Pete Corey Once again you you made a statement that was factorially incorrect that "stock car guys" pretty much had no interest in boxy '20s car when in fact most of the tracks in your part of NY were mostly square 20s and 30s cars. You have even gone so far as to tell Ryan he shouldn't post threads about stock cars on his Forum! https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/pretty-dont-win-races.1260101/page-2#post-14436880 As well as taking my words out of context trying to prove your point! And were does a guy like LeRoy "Bud" Hinman fit into your theory? Hot Rodder turned Stock Car racer and my friend for over 25 years! Bud built this Roadster in 1951 which he traded for this channeled 36 Ford Bud reunited with his roadster at T.R.O.G. Bud built his first stock car in 1960 Bud with his Super Mod He would cut and narrow the 34 body from his first stock car put it on his Super Mod chassis and won the 1969 Mid-State track Championship. Bud with his 1972 Watertown Speedway Championship winning car. Bud My father and myself. My friend Pat Crammer's Rebel Rouser dragster which was a U.S. Nationals record holder. I was driving out to San Bernardino in 1972 and going up a mountain near a place called San Miguel New Mexico, I looked down at a junk yard with a lot of them in it. They were actually burning some. Sad...
My God Robert...that's an awful lot of verbage just to point out how much you dislike me. I thought we had "buried the hatchet" a couple of years ago, but appently not. I was considering disputing a few of your inaccurate comments...but why bother...it's hard to have a rational discussion with an angry young man who presents as a self proclaimed know-it-all. LOL Maybe, when you get a little older, you'll realize that a modest demeanor is an asset, and bragging about WHO and WHAT you know is less important than what you actually accomplish in life. Good luck to you.
