I was only there for a few short hours Saturday morning, but I saw very few spectator cars that may have been driven up like ours was. Here's a shot of it by Gray Baskerville in the April 1993 Rod & Custom. . .

It's still the same 31 years later. The description is a bit off. The body is a 31 Ford 2-Door and the cowl is a 28 Ford Murray(?) 4-Door body that came from the factory with the cowl vent that has body moldings that match the 31 body and (I think) the better-looking 28-29 radiator shell.

I named the sedan a 28 Mercury Torpedo Salon (as it's quoted on the cover of a Scandinavian hot rod magazine) as it has Mercury emblems and patent tags and a V-6 engine -- it can't be a Model A (?). The front "mags" are 14" aluminum Ford products of their 1972 (or so) Granadas, Monarchs and whatever the Lincoln one was called. Cheap at the wrecking yards then, probably hard-to-find now. I believe the 18" Halibrands are very early Indy front wheels. I broke one driving to Bonneville and had to have it repaired. It took a while.

Any way, let's see some more cars that were there last weekend.

    Very slick A!
    Low front suspension…Rolling Bones/Doan Spencer style…right?

I don't see cowl steering so it doesn't look like it is

30+ years ago may have prefaced the Rolling Bones. Lots of West Coast sedans around then, plus I used the parts I mixed and had available.

  7. I TOOK PICTURES OF IT. NOTICED THE 200MPH LICENSE FRAME, AND ALL THE BONNEVILLE STICKERS ON THE 1/4 WINDOWS.
I WOULD POST PIC'S IF I COULD FIGURE HOW TO GET THEM FROM MY PHONE.

How come it’s clean? A clean car is absolutely no proof you were there and drove your car..

  10. Like I said, all my pics are on my Instagram page, dirty pic's and all!

  11. If it's gonna keep you from sleeping tonight, give me your # and i'll send you the photo....

  12. Kind of a stupid statement....The guy who started the thread didn't post a photo of his Sedan there. Just said he didn't see any guys who drove there. I drive my Coupe to every El Mirage event. And have since I got it.

The HAMB seems to live on real photos…just thought I’d ask… I know you’ve read here “without a photo it didn’t happen”

This for those who didn’t go to Bonneville this year…worked out for us with 3 licensening passes. IMG_5876.jpeg

    . . . I don't have a phone.

(Actually, I've had a phone for about 3 years. Didn't bring it. I've never made a call on it. I guess my buddy had one. Whether it takes pictures, I don't know -- or care. Gave up on things like that when my Mac died and can hardly navigate this machine.)

Spring behind the front axle, not on top of axle.

Sometimes I feel I'd rather go El Mirage than Bonneville. Never been to either one but maybe someday.

Extremely dusty…but dust is WAY less destructive than salt! Both places should definitely be on every gearhead’s bucket list!

Worth the trip just to get the dusty wheels. Lettering looks cool!

  21. We had to wash off our rides every night, when we drove there. Salt gets everywhere!!!!

Make sure you have some drain holes in the bottom of your doors. So you wash the salt off and it runs down into the bottom of the doors. Unseen. Found years later.
