    Hello,

Upon seeing this yellow early model Corvette with a few modifications, I went back to my files and found a similar model I had drawn and altered to make the white 54 Corvette I rode around in for a month or so in 1960. It was my first go around in a stark white 54 Corvette and it was a fun experience. Open top, cruising in the day attracts “on lookers” galore.

At night in the summer, the no top cruise just takes on an extra feel and experience. Yes, the wind in your hair and all of that…! As far as the power, blah, blah, blah… the 6 was nothing to write home about. But, it was a Corvette and we were teenagers having a great time.

upload_2024-5-24_4-23-46.png A simple addition of 671 powered SBC 292 c.i. motor from our 1940 Willys Coupe plus drive line. Stock appearance, painted yellow as per my brother’s favorite color planned for the 40 Willys Coupe.

Then, the bug started again with a new version and color. This time, adding the “Mag” wheels, slicks and the powerful 671 SBC modified blower spec motor from our 40 Willys Coupe.
upload_2024-5-24_4-25-22.png slight lowered rake gives some attitude...

For those that are in the lowered all around camp, a few mods and it hugs the ground, legally.
    upload_2024-5-24_4-26-44.png lowered to legal limits

So, what does my altered version have? Our experience with a 283 motor and 6 Strombergs on a fairly modified v8 was good in our 1940 Willys build. We got used to building the motor with all new parts and got it up and running the way we wanted. It was our first go around in the Gas Coupe and Sedan classes. The power behind the v8 283 was there and it would have been a great long distance cruiser, if it did not have a 2.5 gallon Moon Tank in the footwell of the passenger side seating arrangement.

But, the v8 power was all it took to go at a good rate upon acceleration. But, the larger 292 c.i. inch blower spec motor was so much faster and stronger, it was matter of putting it back together from a bare block, step by little step. It did garner several runs near the national record and we were on our way to the class record at Lion’s Dragstrip. But, things did not work out the way we had planned.

After our quiet exit from organized drag racing and custom motor builds, we had thoughts of putting our last 671 supercharged, blower spec built, 292 cubic inch Chevy v8 in our 58 Impala. Also in our friend’s white, 1957 Chevy Bel Air Hardtop Sedan and yes, even in the Flathead 40 Ford Sedan Delivery for a very unusually fast, one of a kind hot rod.

As it was, the closest to moving on in our lives was to sell the hot rod parts + the complete motor, and go away to college for both brothers. The 57 Chevy owner sold his car to fund going away to another college, too. The 55 Chevy two door sedan owner went to the military for 4+ 2 years. We were all moving on to the next step in our lives…good or bad. That was the way it was then…

In my drawing board and still in my mind were the 54 Corvette + 60 Corvette drives and the power that came from a 671 supercharged motor, the way we built it for our teenage needs at the time.

So, I tried to finish the drawing from my old files…

At least, the low powered 6 cylinder motor had a nice upgrade from the plodding motor. Whether or not it was a daily street cruiser, that remained to be seen. Perhaps, entry into the B/Sports Car Class would have some competition for the fast Chevy v8 powered early Corvette. YRMV

  12. I can see about 90% of posts being removed for being Corvettes... Hope not though.

    Good stuff gang!

A commission I've had to wait to share until it was received by the owner of the art. It doubles a a tribute to Tommy's dad. He passed a little while back and was an aviation hobbyist. His last foray was with experimental aircraft.

I appreciate the feedback. The ‘ sporty ‘Vette’ is based on what is probably my most reposted artwork. is a “what if@ idea if Buick had gone beyond the dream car concepts into a production car based on the fiberglass wonder from Chevy.

  21. You talking about the girl or the car? lol A Buick built Corvette would be the Tits. I LOVE your Art work , and model cars! I've built models, and doodled cars since I was a kid. The only place I've ever shared them is on here. The FAS is always fun to see. A big THANKS to you, and the other artist also.:) Ron.........
