Thought about my old Buddy Breeder and how his life was cut short.
Man,..... that guy could make me laugh and tear up at the same time.
Anyhow.... I did art for his show.. he was a great guy to work for...
Always fun stuff and nothing ever serious.

    Post up your work guys.

Another happy Friday "FAS" to you all.
Something a little different this week.
Keeping with an Italian theme of white, green and red, this is 16"x 16" on white industrial butcher paper, via colored pencil, and then laminated, with an inch of clear border all around, as a cool place mat, I made a few copies of this, for a few of my friends.
Have a great weekend to you all, from Dennis.

FYI, yes I know the name "CORLEONE" is misspelled, my bad for not paying attention, but that makes it have a certain value, like the upside down aircraft on the vintage postage stamp!

  3. Never got to meet Breeder. Sure wish I had, but I talked to him several times and always looked forward to the next one. Such a genuine dude.

Back on topic...Stellar work Mr. Norwell!

    Hello,

Ever since the fall of 1958 and the incursion of the 335 hp Impalas and El Caminos at Lion’s Dragstrip, I wanted one for my daily driver. My brother already had his 280 hp 58 Impala and now, I was getting so close to driving age that I was planning my first car. I had some money saved up and I was looking ahead.

A 1959 Impala had different styling, but with two Chevy sedans in the same family, one would have to stay outside of the two car garage. Our dad had the other space for his big Buicks. So, our choices were to have two high powered Chevy cars. My brother said that if I got a 4 speed, 335 hp El Camino, it would be different. With Positraction, it would be a powerful competitor at Lion’s Dragstrip and in Bixby Knolls. I was all for that move. But my money was not going to pay for the whole 59 El Camino with the extras…

    Jnaki

My brother told me that I did not need a car as yet, since I still had 1.5 years to go. So, he said we could go places in the 58 Impala if needed. He probably knew the 1959 335 hp 4 speed El Camino was going to be faster than his 58 Impala, so he could not have that situation!

As life moves on, we built a B/Gas + C/Gas 1940 Willys Coupe with a 671 SBC motor for our next project and my thoughts of the 335HP El Camino went away during the build.
    upload_2023-5-19_4-45-18.png Low and Lean...
Jump up many year later and in my drawings, there was always a 59 El Camino somewhere. But I just could not make the rear fins look normal. So, it was shoved back into art drawing closet for another sunny day project.
    upload_2023-5-19_4-44-51.png
Everyone likes a rake… using air shocks from a 64-65 El Camino for support…

Then as a bright idea, I tried to make an unusual El Camino using a 50 Studebaker and a top similar to a 59 El Camino. Scallops looked appropriate and then a slight rake. But as a simple single color, skirts were added and now it was a lowered custom “El Stude Camino”… ha! A weird name of course. Still thoughts of a 335 hp motor and a 4 speed for quickness.

I also miss Jason aka Tingler's art on here...

    As for this week,

To me this is automotive art. Built in New Zealand by the late Bill Perriton completed in 1961. Car was given the name Crown Jewel and all pretty much everything hand made and built by Bill. fullsizeoutput_5d.jpeg

Time for the Big Deuce! Looks to have another drag link problem, but I haven't heard any complaints from the driver, so we'll blame the kid in the 1960s who built the thing originally.... IMG_1510 copy.jpg

  21. Aww, it's just old junk, thank you.
I've been caught watching Covid origin researchers trawling the filth. Greatest shitshow in town.
Starting next month My brother and I are going to rip into my '56 Holden. My first car, bought 1980 from my great uncle who bought it new from Holden's where he worked in the upholstery department at Woodville his whole working life. I'm saving as much of the upholstery as I can. Car has basically sat as a stripped shell since '84. Plan to basically restore in the early- seventies resto mod style (hot mill, original paint colours, lowered, nosed). Do all the little tricks in the suspension like we used to do. Chrome wheels ($ ouch! ). Low buck. Get it done. No show pony, just clean paint & wheels and muscly 3 on tree/brakes.
Been a long time coming. My first and last. Lots to do.

  22. HaHa thanks ol' cove. Those NHRA stickers you kindly sent will be going in the quarter windows. We used to drag race this engine. 16.80 @ 79/ 80 mph sounds lame to you dudes up there, but it was pretty good for a 3 speed stock box 2200lb street- based early Holden back in '81. We topped 105 mph in it with 4 big dudes in the car, not bad for a mild 132 cu in inline 6 designed in 1938.
This time around it's gonna be a Sunday morning Coffee & Chrome car.

Rusty: I'm a farm boy, I grew up around Big N Little's. Great tractor art.

  24. I had Tingler do a t shirt for my son's Christmas present decades ago. It was fab! It's still in his closet. He was afraid to wear it. :) Good stuff, guys. Pleasant ending to an otherwise lackluster week. Yes, I've been boring. LOL.

Good to hear that work is starting on the humpy, and love the picture of the grey motor. The finned timing cover and sump caught my eye. I've seen ally timing covers, but not sumps. Would love to put a finned cover and sump on the FED. Have got the standard tinware being chromed, but finned ally would be even cooler. If you ever see a set for sale give me a yell :)

    cheers,
    Harv
