  4. Some awards headed up to Wisconsin for the Hot Rod Hundred next Saturday drawn on by Alan Childers. Seems he gave me an opinion of what my 40 Merc could look like on one of them... :D

    Hello,

Early bright colors drew plenty of attention to the newest models of cars and trucks. A 1961 Ford pick p truck based on the Econoline series had the features of a different kind of truck. But, it was missing some styling design cues. The Econoline top was too tall as per proportion to the flat pickup bed. The van height window looks ok and from the inside, gives plenty of open road views. It was as if we were on top of every sedan and could look down on everyone.

So, with a slight chop on the Econoline truck, the style design looks a lot better. IMHO.

But, with the popular color designs available back then, a scalloped highlight trim made the whole new design somewhat sleek looking. With the drop down rear door ramp in place, one other addition was added. A drop down side door on both sides for easy access to loading and unloading products. A style design from the Corvair van of old.

Finally, in looking back, if we had continued our small business of custom engine building and a small parts sales, perhaps, this version would have been “tooling down the street” to various addresses and race car/hot rod building garages.

  24. Thanks @Ned Ludd and @Sancho . . . Ned, that is one of the reason, from the time I was a kid, I've spent countless hours awake at night and, honestly, most of my days, drawing cars (and girls... full disclosure) to get the stuff in my head down on paper in a presentable form. I appreciate, so much, your comment and support! That goes for everyone here. I never wanted to bottle it up and keep it for myself.
