Sorry to see this, hopefully the 40 isn't hurt to much. When I had my big shop out on the farm I always worried about fire. I usually had several customer chassis and other projects plus all my own cars and knew that by the time the local rural volunteer fire dept got there it'd be to late. Looks like your fireman got there quickly.
they got here in about 10 min. it went fast. i watched it on video from florida. a buddy was here. i called him. worst thing to watch. not sure how to get car out yet.
This is everyone’s worst nightmare!!. Hopefully the car will emerge as good, or nearly as good, as the bikes…Kudos to your fire department for the quick response. Keep us posted.
I too monitor my junk from Florida. That is my worst fear. My camera will also report temperature fluctuations. Am glad most of it was salvageable. Did you call 911 from Florida??
How odd. Last night around midnight I had a camera alert indicating an inside garage temperature of 118 degrees. I about shit! I called the sheriffs dept up north who monitors 911. They sent the fire dept to investigate only to find no issues. Needless to say thank God for those guys. Must of been a camera glitch cause as soon as I could see them enter the garage from my camera the temp reading returned to normal. The camera updates whenever it’s activated.
It looks like it was caught and extinguished while the flames were still high. Maybe it was just "radiant heat" on the roof of the coupe??? If I had to pick a spot to correct paint damage, I guess the roof would be it......... Not that I or anyone would want to have to pick. I hope the car interior, headliner, etc. dodged the bullet. Fingers crossed.
That really sucks, by lightening up the photos a bit it looks like the fire went up and through the roof after catching the eves on fire. it looks like the car cover didn't melt or burn and that is a good thing and it may have worked overtime cutting down on damage except dents from the truses.
Man, something nobody wants to go through. but, with bikes & cover of car in pretty good shape may have lucked out with minor damage - no way to know now. hope that you will get help to move roof, etc
if there was ever an example of being "lucky" when your garage catches fire I think this one will be it.
You have the patience of a saint. I would be removing my car before the taillights of whoever told me I couldn't were out of sight. Structure failed, , it will still be failed when the engineer gets there
This is a hard thread to hit the like button on! But by the looks of the bikes and the car cover you just may be the poster child for “1 lucky son of a bitch”.
Glad for the bikes and hopeful for the car. The bikes will need the smell washed off them though. Fire/soot can really stink things up.
got lucky that gas can didnt explode, the cover didnt melt, so hopefully it just rolls out once the debris is off of it
cover isnt melted or burnt... you really are the luckiest man ive seen from a shop fire. oh no the chicken coupe burnt aswell, total loss of life?
As bad as it is hopefully the damage to the cars and bikes are not too bad and the insurance will cover rebuilding the garage and all the rest of your tools and parts. HRP
thanks guys. i have hope after getting bikes out. garage is secured i’ll be home in ten days and car will be out. total loss on garage. adjuster says
I was a fire captain. Those guys made a hell of a stop. I hate you lost your chickens; a person can get attached to those critters. I think you'll have some roof damage to the 40 but it's nothing that can't be fixed. Most garage fires end up being smoldering rubble with a burnt-out shell of a car in the middle..
