@Ryan , sorry about the power outage man I feel your pain. Great read though, it’s a situation that many of us have experienced over the years.
I am totally shocked, that the ATOMIC world headquarters, doesn't have a vintage H & H flathead engine, on a proper stand, connected to a generator, for such emergencies!
We've been iced in since Monday here in Fort Worth. Thankfully we have power, not sure for how long. If you have friends near a hospital their power will never go out, go hang out with them.
Decades ago I lived near the shore during hurricane Gloria. I had my power back the next day, the people behind me went 6 days. It pays to live next to a lineman, though the power co claimed we happened to be on the same line as a nursing home. Strange out 10 house street was but not the street we were off of, not the street on either side. PS I did run an extension cord from my garage to the people behind me.
Living on the end of a power grid here in the Sunny South if my neighbor farts there is a good possibility we will loose power! Seriously, none of us want to do without power, HRP
Here if you don't like the weather, wait a day as it will change. Ice storms used to be frequent here, not so much now. Oh, wait. I just jinxed it. Being without power is no fun, I feel your pain. Stay warm and well.
I'm on the end of a circuit that goes down alot, My neighbors to one side never have issues but myself and those on the other side seem to loose power even if its not windy. So I bought one of these power stations for emergencies. Its expandable, has an RV plug so I can use it camping, and it can be charged with a solar panel if need be. And, no worries if it will start . https://www.bluettipower.com/
Man what a relief, from the title I thought you were done with the lot of us, selling the empire and hitting Hawaii permanently cuz you had nothing left in the tank.
The old article makes me think the owner was out doing something he could get in trouble for, and thought someone saw him, so he made up a story about how the car was stolen and returned and that whoever was out hot rodding that night definitely was not him, nudge nudge wink wink. At least, that's the feeling I get.
Hmmm, wasn't what I thought.... Jr took dad's hot rod out for a little ride but ran out of gas. In the excitement of getting it back in the garage, he forgot which direction it was facing. Of course he denied it. So dad's only option? Call the police. Nothing was going to happen, but it sure put Jr on notice not to try that again. We are pretty lucky here, it has to be a pretty strong storm to take our power out. We happen to be early in the line of one of 4 or 5 main power grids in our town. When we loose power, about 1/4 of town also looses power, its one of the higher priorities to have power restored here.
Someone of your stature with no backup, I’m thoroughly shocked! Check with Keith, the shop probably has power. Hope you get it back soon, Carp!!
Also my first thought when I saw the title, which does beg the question regarding a succession plan. Maybe too early to worry about that, Mr. Turning 47? Anyway, you’re certainly quick on your feet (but we already knew that).
Supposed to get real cold this weekend; the wife said she will bring some wood in tomorrow. We'll see.
In August 2020 the 140 mph derecho storm blew through Iowa and I went 12 days without electricity. It was a very strange time.
@Ryan - my wife and I just visited @Chris Casny in the jungle on Maui a couple of hours ago. It's way better here... But you know that.
Thank goodness you’re not quitting! I have to say however that these cold spells and ice storms you get in Texas screw with my mind as when I think of that state cold @nd ice never come to mind...
I've been watching that Ice storm as I have a sister in law by Waco and one out south of you on Divide pass. Best way to deal with slick roads in Texas is to stay off them though.
