I think mine was 4”, it was done back in the ‘50s. It was hard on the neck trying to see traffic lights but worth it.

 

I did 3" on my 31 tudor but I think chopping the top you also have to take into account any channeling that is done.

I did a 3" chop but also a 3" channel so effectively losing 6" of inside room from floor to roof.
