Looking good so far.I'll be following....good luck bud.

  2. Making progress on going through everything, cleaning electrical terminals, changing fluids, greasing everything. This car is exactly what I purchased, as described right down to the description of “scary fast.” More power than it possibly can handle, more braking than it can handle, and tight steering. It takes knowing the car to drive it properly, a skill that is lost these days. Can’t wait to really put some shakedown miles on it to prepare for the first big trip.

  3. I have always liked this car. I am building a T and have a picture of this saved for inspiration.
Can't wait to see what you do with it.

  4. Took a few more photos today while I had it out.

It's your car, but have you considered painting the hood to match the body? I think that would really look good with the new wheels!

  6. Hi Peter, I have not considered painting the hood at this point. In the future I might clean up some metal work on the body and consider it then (as a retirement project for myself to do). It isn’t a show car, the body is period correct to an old modified pulled out of the barn in the mid-fifties and dropping an SBC in.

Actually with the new wheels, the aluminum hood and louvered rear looks great!

I love your car and the story. Sometimes I am ever more impressed and moved by the story behind the hot rod as I am by the car itself—this is one of those times. I was building a modified before I started my ‘31 roadster, so I’ll be paying attention.

The wheels look great. Please keep us posted.

  9. The new wheels do tie the aluminum nicely, I will be glad when the knockoffs arrive.

  11. A lot of spirited jaunts down the road taking family for a spin on Thanksgiving. Nice to have sunny 50’ weather in Kansas this time of year. Runs true at 75 mph on the two lane road, nice conversation speeds at 65 mph (thanks to a GPS speedometer app on the phone).

Great car and a even better family bonding opportunity: Love that! I have a few 26-27 T lakes projects going, I really like the hood do you know who made it?

  14. . Yes, EJ Kowalski built the car 20 years ago. I think he has an old louver machine, or did at the time.

  15. Nice hot rod! It gives me inspiration.

  16. Me and Dad had a great week, he rolled out his toy for a picture today. He goes in for throat surgery again on Monday, so probably not much progress until I get back down in December. 35F9D31A-317A-4326-AD2E-56B93B82E9C0.jpeg 53258873-1941-4B37-B6AD-FFD0FBB57AE7.jpeg

  17. So we have a little play in the driver side king pin (bushing). My question, replace both at the same time or only the one with play? Dad and I will tackle it this winter. Really the last required item on our list from the initial shakedown. Anything else is cosmetic or to be found while driving locally prior to the first big summer trip.

Do both…bushings need to be honed for palm press fit of kingpin by machine shop, so do both.

  19. That was my thought as well.

Really nice! By chance are there pictures or a build thread from the original owner.

I'm excited... Great stuff here, Scotty. If the Modified were photo'd and featured in a magazine spread, the captian might read, "Former Flyboy now does fast taxis back on the ground!"
Pix of your Dad make him look right at home. Sits the car nicely. I wouldn't race him...:D

Speaking of king pins: I loaned a 'friend' my King pin bushing reamer. He moved. Went to the local auto machinist, he reamed my new bushings with a Sunnen CK-10 hone. "Factory specs." Took 'em home, king pin was sloppy as the door hinges on an S-10.
Again: Great Modified, and thanks for your service.

  22. I don’t think there is a build thread, but there are some photos and information out there. Michael is following along, so we will see what he says.

  23. Maybe when we get her out and about next spring we will land a feature story somewhere. A lot of people have been snapping photos of us this fall blasting around.

Just noticed the curved top on the windshield, nice detail that must give you a bit more protection from the wind that a straight cut wouldn't. Great car. Bob

  28. Bob, the curve is a subtle but really nice detail. A conversation at 60mpb is comfortable, but wind circles back on those with long hair. I guess having a high&tight for almost 30 years is a true benefit.

  29. Yes, Michael is no doubt a true hot rodder. The car can quickly go into “cow on ice” mode on dry surfaces, so that was guaranteed a white knuckle drive!

  30. When I built my T I had planned on the curved top as well. Got in a hurry and just had my glass guy cut it square in the end. Yours sure looks good.
