Technical Finally solid bellhousing 55-57 chevy mounts

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 57chevymadman, Nov 22, 2022.

  1. I've converted my old 55 chevy to side mounts back in 1993, but I've always wanted to build solid bell mounts from scratch just for the sake of having stock appearing mounts, then the thought came to me about just chopping them in half, too easy!!!

And you can level and center the engine to perfection. Hell you can use spacers between the frame and mounts to kick it forward on a BBC install. 20221108_120832.jpg 20221115_130612.jpg 20221115_142754.jpg 20221122_184934.jpg

THAT IS FRIGGIN' GENIUS!!! I hope you don't mind if I copy your idea. I'm getting tired of breaking left side mounts on my '56 and have been dreading trying to fab up something from scratch! Nice and sanitary looking!

I always liked those side mounts because it made a transmission change easy.

  4. Any concerns on vibration? Some guys take a stock mount, and drill two holes through the mount, and put 5/16 bolts through so the mount still has a rubber factor going for it,but torque cant tear them a part.

  5. Thanks for the replies! As far as vibration I've used solid mounts on all of my builds since '93. Its not even noticeable after a while to me... 427 feel free to copy lol, I used 1/4" plate except for the sides, 1/8" was used there mostly just to box them closed for appearance.
