I'm thinking about painting my 1937 ford coupe competition Orange. There's lots of different orange paint to choose from. Does anyone know what paint was commonly used back in the 60's. Thank you for the help
Orange is nice now but, it is a trendy color. You see it a lot on muscle cars and Corvettes. It definitely says: "Look at me". You see it on drag racing cars a lot. Think about whether or not you will be pleased with it after a few years, especially if it fades. https://www.google.com/search?q=com...i30j0i390l4.7401j1j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 You might want to consider a color that maintains " appeal stay power" over the years.
The predominate Orange around this area is called Omaha Orange. State trucks are this color and it's a very popular color for other commercial vehicles and machinery.
I was just a weekend car event and there were exactly 1,358 hugger orange 69 camaros (the exact reason I sold mine a couple years ago, might as well drive a damn prius). One thing we noted was how different all the oranges were. Some more red, some more white, some mixed by a blind person. Pontiac used the same color mix but called it Carousal Red BTW. The Orange Crate has a nice hue.
Yup, Willys Orange IS Omaha orange. My dad painted his 56 Chevy this color in 1966 Willys Jeep Paint Color Guide (kaiserwillys.com) Here is how it looks on a car
1965 Ford Poppy red, paint code is 3. Mustang and Falcon color. Same paint code and color used on 69 Cougar Eliminator's but was called Competition orange, was a little redder shade than GM's Hugger orange
I like how four different old pictures of the same car, are four different shades of orange omaha orange (59 chevy truck) is a bit pale, yellow as oranges go. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?color=Omaha Orange&tditzler=60156&rows=50 hugger orange is darker, slightly redder. I think it's really really orange. I like it. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?color=Hugger Orange&tditzler=2084&rows=50 orange flame (76 corvette) is kind of between them, that's what I painted my 59 chevy truck 40 years ago. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?color=Orange Flame&tditzler=2764&rows=50 Good luck, there are lots of flavors of orange, and we all like different ones better
I painted my Logghe altered Hugger Orange, mostly to differentiate it from my avatar, which folks were getting confused with the much earlier Last Logghe altered. BTW, I rubbed out the sides but intentionally left the orange peel on the top and turtle deck.
Your can paint 4 different shape cars with the same colour, same gun and get 4 different shades. It comes down to the curves of the vehicle and how the light is bounced off.
My pop had a contract with a guy touching up bug trucks. Omaha Orange was a hard color to match. the paint from the store seldom matched the truck. Always needed a bunch of spray outs. It was never off the same way.
From a glasurit paint fleet chart. Been painted by me for getting close to 30 years. Sometimes I wish it wasn't orange, but it is. Oh, at a cruise night last Saturday night, an orange 37 Ford Coupe showed up. I hadn't seen it before. I didn't take any pictures, because the wheels and the taillights sucked. I didn't like it orange either.
Another variation of Poppey Red/Competition Orange. Ford was good for using same paint formula and changing the name depending on make and model. Lol
