A friend picked up this cowl, but we have no idea what its from. I've spent a few hours trying to compare pictures of every make from 1920 -1932. I even started to look into foreign models. But nothing I see has that exaggerated ridge line on the side. And it also looks narrow. So time to turn to some experts. Thanks,
There were so many manufacturers back in them days that are long gone. Could be a make we've never heard of. But I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say it's a Dodge... One more thing, that's a wide 5 Volkswagen wheel sitting under it. They ran those up to 67
Kinda looks like a 20s buick master 6 but not it. The Buick seems to have a style line your cowl doesn’t have
It looks like a start on a speedster. It most likely was some low production car. The best way to Id it may be to get the frame out in the open and get some good photos of it.
Does it seem to be attached to that frame? The suspension design should give clues. What are the general dimensions? I’m giving a wild guess: American LeFrance fire truck. 19 teens.
My first thought was also a truck of some sort. But then you can see cutouts to what looks like hinges might have attached. A lot of early firetrucks and local delivery trucks didn't have doors. I will ask him if he has pics of the frame and/or suspension.
I thought Dagmar at first, bit the flat shelf does not go that far back. This one is definitely a puzzler.
Here some pics he sent me of the frame. Looks truckish to me now. But it seems like there is a lot of front forward frame. straight 8?
My first thought was Buick, but I'm not sure they had that "shelf" look on the sides. Maybe cousin to the Buick like a Durant, or something?
Thinking Packard because of the shelf on the top side may match the grille shell . This is closest example I have at the moment and 1922 Packard Touring has like windscreen stanchions
NOT Packard- they didn't have that shelf either... Whatever it is, it's going to be late Teens-early 20's with those windshield posts. Most truck frames in that era were straight beams, so most likely a larger touring car.
Winner winner chicken dinner!!! He'll be able to go to all the hotrod gatherings AND the Jeep ones also!
Wow, it is from a car. Glad you found the match. The completely flat side panel, I was thinking truck or even machinery - implement.
Right on. Thank you. I even looked at the Willy's too. And didn't see it. I knew posting it here would come up with results. Thanks again everyone.
Congrats! You now can say you own a Willys! Just not one anybody knows nor wants! With the right creativity it COULD become something. I am thinking of the cool underslung pale yellow/green Dodge modified from 15-20 years back
