My helper came back over this morning with a breakfast burrito for me. I reciprocated with a couple of Moroccan coffees.

He spun the doors while I cleared them. The bottoms look just as nice as the tops.

A painter buddy once told me “painting is nothing more than turning a liquid into a solid”

May be very well true but some of my solids have runs in them

Those are not runs, they are paint thickness indicators

  11. When I'm questioning my sanity on some of these projects, I'll take a look back on where it all started..amazing on how time flies by sometimes.
Good for my mindset,,usually kicks starts me back on tract.

Well I got a tad thick on the center section of the dash. it is a hard piece to paint because you have to do half through one side and then go over to the opposite side and shoot that and the overlap in the middle is where I had a "flow check". it is a flat panel and easy to polish.

Thanks for that and you are correct as usual. I was complaining about the slow progress of painting my dads garage as a kid one summer to earn a few dollars. I said I had so much further to go and he said "look back at all you've accomplished so far". Sage advice from you both. I feel better already.

Waiting around this morning for a contractor so I made myself useful. Trans cover. I had it rhino-lined but I did not like my welding talent (or lack there of) showing through so I baked it all off and fired back up the MIG. This time it was good so I had it recoated and today I installed the boots and rings.

It has a cool vibe that will work well in the interior I have slated.
    upload_2022-8-18_14-58-21.png
It doesn't show but that piece got a lot of work to fit the shifter boot and especially the brake boot. I had to add some steel over there to make that brake "landing pad" and remove the hump for the shifter plate to sit flat. And its done underneath as well. A handful of SS nylocs and SS screws to make sure it stays together. One more thing off the todo list.
Why did they use so many screws on the shifter plate? My hands hurt. Could have easily been half that many.

Don't forget to put some anti-seize on the fasteners so it will be easier to remove the cover when the time comes to remove it!

Funny! And the screws are chrome, they are the extras from the hinges after I resized them.

In my spare time today I also sanded, torched and varnished the wood for the bed and the cab
    upload_2022-8-18_18-59-56.png
And got started on the polishing on the cab.

Me thinks this is going to look pretty damn good. I need to lose a few pounds but as you can see, I did get a hair cut.

Slow going but here is some updated pics.
the roof is very nice but not many will ever see it.

the doors are getting there, the bottoms near the lift will wait until I mount it in the frame.

mind you that this isn’t finish polished yet, still in compound.

the back of the cab where the bed will cover didn’t get as tightly sanded but that will be hidden completely. From the reveal up is tight

Yes sir, not to mention the swearing, drinking, sweating and occasion runs to the paint supply house.

If I can round up a helper or two tomorrow I will push the frame over from it's garage where it spent the last year and stick the cab on it. It doesn't roll all that well so it is almost impossible to do by myself. That hemi and 4 speed auto weigh a ton!

Next up on the lift is the bed, it will make it easier to polish inner panels, so the cab needs to get finished and mounted to the frame. Fenders will come last so they can be mounted as they are polished.

No time to rush. That is usually when I screw stuff up!

Over inflate the tires and it will roll much easier! I go up to 50 PSI and it makes a huge difference
