Any recommendations on a good quality visor out there? Ordered one and it came in like this. Realize these pieces are handmade and usually require some metalsmithing but sheesh it gauges out to be 24 gauge and looks like it’s used.
My experience is that Mike's sells good quality stuff: https://www.mikes-afordable.com/category/1131.html
I used Sacramento Speed Shop Andy Suciu 410 N.16th St Sacramento Ca. 95811 I lost his phone number. His visor is the one on my avatar. Am very happy with it and has 17000 miles on it and no problems. Well built and nice finish.
I got mine at a local Model A supplier and it was perfect. The Model A Ford Works 503-282-2212; it was new. I've also had good luck with Sacramento Vintage Ford and Berts Model A Ford Center. Both of these vendors have web sites.
That is ridiculous and a complete lack of metal fabrication skills. 24ga. is like .024" thick. Send it back. Bratton & Brookville I think only sell one for 28-29. I did see another member show one they made back in 2017. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1930-31-model-a-visor.1064057/
Thanks gentlemen knew I’d get the info I needed here. Would send it back but just like a bad marriage it’s cheaper to keep ‘er. Maybe use it on my lawnmower lol
Btw I won’t get into bashing suppliers, but if anyone needs to know where I bought it send me a message and I’ll share the information.
The louvered one in my avatar comes from a guy in Calgary, AB who builds them plain, louvered, or circle punched. At the time it was less than a repro. Long way from Texas though. Colin Sutherland (403) 660-0822
Lesson learned. Contacted the vendor today about the quality. Said he would have to contact the manufacturer to see what he would do and how he responded about the quality as I was sent the last one he had in stock. Calling around about other visors has taught me basically if the seller does not actually manufacture their part(s) they typically come from the same manufacturer, in this case a Texas based sheetmetal company. Some vendors are just better at advertising their parts than others. Pretty sure I’ll be reworking this piece or salvaging my original to get by. Buyers beware guys!
You’d have to wonder about who made it, got done and said “ya, send it out”. Can’t really talk about QC, probably most places don’t have them on sent parts or received parts. But dang, have a little pride in your work.
This was the response from Mike’s Afordable…. “I have sent these pics to the factory. They called me today and said that these are all handmade pieces and each have some little differences. He said they are making more soon and he can work to make one with cleaner lines. Either way you would still have to do finishing work to them. This is the only company making these visors” the manufacturer makes visors for all the major companies that sell Model A parts.
