I sacrifice a little weight and fuel mileage, have a tool box in each car filled with crap. Remember to toss in bolts, nuts, washers of various sizes, cotter pins, zip ties, mechanics wire and duct tape (I do have spare points and even some brake line caps). I have this because I didn't have a cell until a few years ago.....so road repairs are a must. I like the coin idea.
There's a reason the vehicle manufacturers no longer use the "fruit-jar" master cylinder. Every state I've lived in requires a functioning "parking brake" on any vehicle licensed to operate on a public road. It's far more important to carry tools and supplies to get a vehicle on the road again than cleaning and polishing supplies. I guess some of us didn't get the memo.
Full credit for the roadside 'fix'. I am a definite believer in dual circuit braking systems.. I carry a small selection of basic tools, usually used to help others. If you are prepared, it probably won't happen. But then with an old car it just might.
I've had to do that to get home. Off shore made crap wheel cylinder was the problem. Just because a part is new doesn't mean it's any good anymore. Vise grips on brake lines used to be common on farm machinery.
I'm always surprised how many cars dont have a parking/e brake. How do you do hand brake slides without one ?
