  13. Only think frenched on Taboo. Surprisingly this has been the most talked about mod on the car the last couple years at every show we gone to with it.

    Hello,

Recessed antennas always look cool. But to accentuate the hole in the fender with some custom touches just adds to the mystique of the simple hole and antenna sticking out. We have all seen inserted custom holes on cars, but to make something creative out of a hole in the fender goes a little farther into the custom world.

When I was taking photos of this Chevy Sedan, the overall look was very nice. As I walked around to get some highlight photos, it was obvious that the owner took time to do something a little different. Besides the fawn beige paint that we haven’t seen since those early Chevy sedans, it was well done. Then as the walk around was being completed, the biggest surprise was at the rear of the sedan.

A recessed hole in the body panel. But not just a simple hole for the antenna. It was a custom raised body work to accentuate the recessed antenna installation. Very cool indeed.

    Note:

When we removed the rear dual 1958 Impala antennas, we got a retractable single antenna for the right front fender. Before the installation, we had thought of doing a recessed hole and making the antenna disappear. We saw it at a local car show. Then as we were ready to decide, things popped up. We had no down time for the installation and custom touches. So, a standard disappearing, on the surface base, antenna was installed. It gave us better reception for the radio.

We found out that when it was 100% down, no reception except for buzzing and crackling. But, as we raised it about a hand spread up, the reception was outstanding, as if it were all the way up. So, our mode of cruising around was ¼ mast. YRMV

  18. Fellas!

It's been days without a post! Don't tell me this thread has met its Waterloo!!! :p

I'm gonna french in an antenna on my old dumpster fire of a truck. I just can't figure out where I want to put it. I'm thinking cab corner or cowl. I've seen them on the tops of the bedsides, and while they look cool, it's not quite my cup of tea. Now, if I was going to put antennas on the tops of the bedsides, there'd be a pair, one on each side, from a '62 Impala.

    Anyway, here's a contender.
