Motion Pictures Route 66 TV Series

  1. I was at my uncles wedding in 1960, upstate Minnesota, and Martin Milner's parents were there, somehow related to the bride. The show had been on less than a year; they were beaming over there boy being on tv.

An episode that stands out is when they were in Malibu at a cool beach house, about the only one on that stretch of beach, and a '55 Nomad is parked in the driveway next to the vette. Two of my favorite cars as a ten year old. Lloyd Bridges was the mad marine biologist.

Also, don't forget 77 Sunset Strip as another cool show. Kooky in the Grabowski T.

Bobby Troup wrote Route 66 but it was his first wife, Cynthia, who said, "Get your kicks on Route 66".There has never been, and will never be, a better recording than Nat King Cole's.

That theme music is haunting and I couldn't let it go so I googled "Silver Streak and Route 66 TV Show" and found that the Director/Producer Arthur Hiller not only directed Silver Streak in 1976 but he also directed 12 episodes of Route 66. Coincidence? Mancini wrote the Silver Streak theme but perhaps he was a Route 66 fan as well.

I vaguely recall an episode where Buzz road raced the Corvette for whatever reason. Lost due to possible sabotage. At the end of the show they were walking the track and mysteriously found a spark plug.....hmmm. o_O:rolleyes:
Intriguing shit for the young fan...:D

I purchased this Route 66 game from Jerry McClanahan (Author & Artist) on Route 66 in OK. IMG_0812 (002).jpg

  6. Interesting, I have never heard that version. A little slow for a road tune but I like it. Depeche Mode’s version does it for me when I’m “behind the wheel”.

  7. If I remember, Troupe got fucked out of any money for the song on the show. They used some, but not all of it. In the interview I caught he seemed a bit bitter about it.....

Never met Jerry but his guide book was incredibly useful for our trip in 2019.

Some interesting Corvette related show trivia

They even filmed Tod and Buz in the Corvette from behind as they traveled—and they used a different Chevrolet to do that…a Corvair.

“That car had the trunk in the front and the engine in the rear,” Sam Manners described. “So, we removed the trunk lid, mounted cameras in the trunk, then filmed the scene as we followed the Corvette.”

I read somewhere that one of the deciding factors in hiring George Maharis for the part was his resemblance to Jack Kerouac

Looking thru the tv listings doesn't always show the proper show. I find most of the stuff by accident by scrolling.
I have seen Route 66 very late/ early.

Pretty sure it was Todd that road raced the Vette, Buzz was probably getting into a fight somewhere.

  16. That show didn't start until over 10 years after the HAMB era shows being mentioned in this thread.

  17. Well if you want to get technical…American Graffiti, California Kid and Two Lane Black came out about the same time. Even Hot Rods to Hell missed it by two years. ;)

  18. I agree, but the ones you mention had traditional hot rods in them. Did Baa Baa Black Sheep?

    Wasn't it Black Sheep Squadron?

  20. Yes, it got a little off track there for a while. It was just kind of funny that the objection was about when the show was made.

  21. That change happened after syndication.

Route 66 is a great show. Fred and Barney were hot rodders too, also a great show.

Don't mess with my shows, I'll pack your ass in the trunk of my 62 impala then help everyone look for you. Don't think I won't. :D
