The old harbor freight weld cart wasn't cutting it anymore. Had some 1 x 1 laying around so I fabbed up a new one. It ain't as pretty, but it's sturdier and I get a lot less anxiety moving it along IMG_20220528_195016320.jpg

I dragged her out of hibernation Saturday. Something's bugging me about how it's sitting. It seems to be sitting higher not sure if it's the tires in the back or what it is....

Trying not to let the budget blues get me down. Did some sanding and gave her a couple of coats of Rust-Oleum

I feel like John Madden doing this. I'm thinking the area in red square off and box the hump. The area in blue will be two pieces that seems easy enough. I'm just wondering about the pink area could I do a "C" channel shape?

  8. The pink area is the rear body support; so a C channel duplicating the original piece would be in order.

Seems to me I was able to form one piece to cover the spare tire well on my '47; but maybe I had more there to start with.

I didn't have a tool tray so my floor went flat to the rear panel; I would do the same here and eliminate the drop and keep it flat.

The part in blue can be had in one piece. The tool tray is very handy to have, I made a cover for both sides on mine and it can store quite a bit of small stuff

@topher5150 I just came across this thread, great work! I've binge read this whole thread instead of listening to a Teams call here at work. Just want to say thanks for sharing your car's story! I'm looking for a '46-'48 myself.

Ugh....last night we had a biblical downpour the tarp held but more than likely it blew under the tarp under the door and soaked everything. We had another downpour this afternoon, and we're gonna get hit again in a little bit. Tomorrow looks nice hopefully I can get the tarp off and let it air dry.

  13. Send some of that rain my way. Outside of a few showers, no rain here since early June. Along the parkways I see dead trees due to the drought.

I need to vent, and I need some advice.
I feel like the majority of my struggle, so far, has been getting this steering column to fit. The way I had it originally had it, it was sitting way too low into the floor and would cause issues with brake pedal placement. I just bought this double U joint which I think will help with getting the column up and out of the way it now pushes it too far back and now the shift lever for the linkage is now in the car.
I really don't want to get sucked into this rabbit hole where I'm spending loads of money on an aftermarket column and I still have no idea if it will work.

I was really hoping to use the white steering column but I don't think that will be an option anymore.

Can you move the column a bit to the left? Also if you want to use the white column but feel it's too long shorten it. Also the u-joint can be inside. I did this on my cpe plus a COE I built. I used a van column shortened 14" in the COE

Can you bend the brake arm over toward the gas pedal enough to clear the column? Might have to put a Z or lazy S in it to get the lower part vertical again.

-I might be able to get the white column over a bit, but I'd probably have to remove the center link of the U-joint.
-If I shorten the column then I wouldn't be able to use the column shift.

-I'm trying to get the brake pedal lower on the firewall, but bending the pedal will be an option too.

  20. Sure you can; just cut the outer tube, the shift tube, and the shaft in the right order.

I see you used an adapter plate on the stock steering box mount; have you ever looked into the mount that replaces the stock mount, like Pete&Jakes #5002 mount. Moves the box outward and may help get the column over and possibly help with exhaust. At one time they recommended it for SBF installs.

I used one on my '47 and the column is a straight shot to it with one normal U-joint and the stock brake pedal clears just fine.

Would that work? I looked up that part and it says it's for Vega box and mid 60s Saginaw boxes 35-40 Ford. (My steering box is early 70s Sag/GM P/S)

  24. Hard to get in there with the inner fenders in the way. Should show how the box mounts real close to the frame on the Weedetr bracket and has a straight shot to the column with a single U-joint. Brake pedal is stock Ford with the mount is spaced over a 1/4" or so for booster clearance. I added the column location measurements; I think it over a little at the bottom; but the column drop in bolted to dash in the stock location and looks square with the car.

So a while back a fellow HAMBer helped me cut the end of my wishbone and get it off my axle. I finally got around to working on the wishbones today. I don't remember if he bent the wishbones or not but everything fit together so who knows IMG_20221015_174646254_HDR.jpg

Made a stop at the parts store the other day, and got everything I need to run the fuel line. What do you fat fender Ford guys do to run the fuel line from the cowl to the engine? IMG_20221031_172008727.jpg

On my Lincoln, I ran hard line to the front of the engine, then I used AN braided from that to the carb. I’m running an electric pump out back, no place for mechanical on my engine.

If you're running a line from a hardline on the cowl just put a short piece of rubber fuel line off it connected to hardline to the carb

One last project before it gets to bad out. Talking to a couple of HAMBers and it seems like this Weedetr setup is going to make things a lot easier clearance-wise IMG_20221110_073532501.jpg .

Got a little ambitious this Saturday got warmed up working on the tractor so I thought I'd take a crack at the steering box adapter from weedetr. I don't have any heat in the Harbor Freight garage but being out of the elements does make things a bit more tolerable. I managed to get 1 rivet out I think that if I can get the other out on top without causing to much trouble I will throw the plate on there and drill out the rest like that.
