I found this print at a second hand store..price was good..and I liked it. Not really into dirt track stuff but it's cool. Can you imagine how many of these were destroyed? No info on track or city but tow trucks and ambulance are from the 50s...so maybe this pic from the late 50s early 60s??
That has been posted a few times over the years. It's a shame racing has become so expensive. You NEVER see local fields like that these days.
"Those first few laps had to be exciting." That's why they had a series of heat races -- to pick the cars for the main event. This had to be at the start of the evening.
My Dad raced roadsters in the late 40’s to early 50’s then they switched to coupes. I cry every time I look at this 3 windo
I believe that was a Southern Ca. photo, no doubt a parade introduction lap, a fair share of 5w, 3w, & a couple of vickies, 32-33-34's. An all too common sight at nearly every fairgound through-out the country in the 40's-50's-60's-70's but then a true testament of the might of the flatheads, inliners & the roots of racing .
I was thinking that (ironically), because of this type of racing, a lot of early Fords got destroyed which increased the value of the surviving ones, which now makes the surviving ones too valuable to race with..…….
I have seen that picture many times before and believe it was taken at the log shuttered Gardenia Speedway in SoCal.
