Hot Rods Homebuilt Woodies? Anyone Done It?

If we're on to wood PU beds, I've seen this one that I appreciate the workmanship on at a few shows up my way. Not sure who it belongs to though.

Thinking about building my own woodie, but how is the wooden body attached to the floor pan and sealed?

 

Don’t know about homemade or not but fun to look at.
I guess second one more of a huckster than a woodie?

I really like this one and would have loved to have been able to pull the trigger on it when Tony was selling...

The bamboo and grass is just plain fun...

 

This was my high school project... would have been around 1984 I think. Was ground-up learning experience. It's since been sold to a family friend and is running around Nazareth, Texas I believe with a blue cowling a little different treatment on the wood.

 

This car was built by my pal Dick, I believe he purchased the wood from a shop in Florida. HRP

 

this is my home-built woody, but I didn't build it. I'm the third owner and was told it was built by a guy in Arkansas

 

My friend Mike from Sacramento has this 29 he re-built.

This is a bit premature, but I'm starting on a '29 woodie, using my coupster door jambs for a template to add a bit of curve and shortening the body, more victoria like. Hence my wooden vickie or as my grandson called it, a"Wooki". I got 8/4 maple from the lumberyard-planes out to 1 3/4" thick. My nephew went and googled "woodie" to see what they were and sent me a picture, which was pretty much in my mind's eye when I started. Now I've got a vision to followI've got most of the wood cut and shaped, same with the doors. The rear spring has been on back order for a year and when that arrives, I start setting up the chassis. All the joints are hand cut mortise and tenon with some dowels thrown in the doors as a bit easier, countersunk screws and glue, epoxy, blah, blah. Build thread when I get moving on it again.

 

RB 35,how are you fastening the wood to the Steel floor pan,love to see photos,thinking about building mine useing 1934 plymouth parts.

 

Current state, stalled at the moment.

I used a set of old sub frames and traced them onto the 8/4 x ? maple. Used the original frame holes to bolt them down, then did mortise and tenon for the uprights and the roof frame. Tried to hide all the screws and everything is getting a coat of West epoxy, then will be clear coated for UV protection. I realized all of the 'build so far" pics are on my phone, just need to load them on the desk top, then I can start a thread. Moving very slow since my build space is used by management...

 

I have of have had and built all of the '34 Ford's except for a roadster pickup and a woody. I know my limitations and will leave that one for the pro's. It would be nice but it's not going to happen.

 

I had plans to build one for years, but sold my model A cowls. If there was a good kit out there, one would make a killer rod.

 

My favorite woody. Discovered on the HAMB in some 1956 ish Allentown PA airport drag photos. John Good bought the wagon for $50. Invested $1450 on the body and drivetrain. Chopped and channeled, new Mahogany. '40 Lincoln front axle & brakes. 354 Hemi, 4 carb intake, Ford floor shift with torque tube rear. Last photo is the latest one I could find from maybe 20 years ago.

 

Somebody should have left that car alone.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Been a while and my apologies. I got hung up on home duties, still waiting for a rear spring since 6/2021. Was told it may be shipped this week-been hearing that for awhile. Got the 276" flathead back from Bill Coleman, putting 59A Edelbrock heads on it to start, but have an original 8BA pair that have been milled a bit for compression, had the '40 rear axle bells reversed and converted to open driveline. A bit early, but the coupster has been stored off-site so now Ihave an empty bay and can start to put everything together to get final fit then finish the wood. Once I get the suspension set up, then I can get ECI's tandem brake/clutch pedal set-up and run the plumbing. Has anyone ever put an hydraulic slave on a T-5? Have to make your own bracket?
My phone takes OK pictures, but the cord between it and the desktop is hit or miss. So getting out the SLR and will post a few of where I am or should probably start a thread.
