What's the secret to installing these gems ? I can't get them to seat using a small piece of wood and a hard rubber mallet, even greased them up and still managed to break one. I tried thin end first, then fat end first, then straight on, all ends up in the same position. The bottom one is an original the other two are aftermarket, they don't look that far off when laying one over the top of the other. I broke one of the originals removing them to paint the wheel, hind sight being 20/20 and all I should've just taped them instead of removing them.
Git'em in there and call it good. I'd be more concerned with getting the horn ring to work right. I put a '59 wheel in my '56 and it's been nothing but a pain in the ass trying to get the horn to work right! Still hasn't happened...
I just left them as is in fear of breaking anymore, plus I nicked my fresh paint with the hammer, that's when I decided to call it good enough.
I ended up using one original and 3 aftermarket, which leaves me with 2 spare originals, hopefully none will break but you never know how stressed they get when knocking them in.
Yup they stick out a little. If I remember correctly I had to sand paint out of the grooves on mine before they would go in
