I would like to eventually find one of these to turn in the Dust Bowl Speed Shop sign for the front of my shop. I am guessing they are made of unobtanium. Was Standard the only company that used signs like this? The last resort is I can fabricate my own.
If you plan to modify one I guess a beat up one would sell for less money that a mint one. The size of the thing would make it cheaper since most people collect the smaller signs. Good luck in the search. Bob
Yeah, I saw one once, way down in SE OK that was missing the center. Out in the middle of nowhere. I have no idea on how to find it again. I just need the post/frame. I just like the look.
So here is mine The base The rest was used as a chimney and now is used as a bridge over a small creek I hope to rejoin the base and sign its already tall enough with out the column
Snapped a picture on the way home from work This one probably won’t be around long they’re putting in a new sheetz gas station next door
Last year I scored a 20 foot tall 8 sided sign pole with a top bracket but no actual sign frame (similar to the Esso one shown above), I plan to make up a Potter Meat Market marquis for it. I've found the pole and frame are often very high priced and hard to find, seems like there are more signs around in search of a pole/frame than vice versa. If you do happen to find one, I'd say don't hesitate, they don't come around often.
My grandpa had a small country store and he made his own sign, I have it on the front porch of my barn. HRP
