First attempt at doing door panels. It turned out ok. Bought black pleated and tan vynil. Measured out panels and cut the vynil to allow 1/2” for sewing and an inch or so for folding over the back. Wife sewed them up. Used MDF board and clear coated with enamel. Glued vynil on then a vapor barrier. Need to make chrome trim to go over seems even though they look pretty good. Shouldve put thicker foam behind tan to make up for the thicker pleating. Learning as I go. Update. Took the chrome strips off the original and covered the seams. Then upholstered the arm rest. That was the hardest part of it all. Got to figure out a better way to do it.
Isn't it rewarding to do things that most people wouldn't attempt to do. I say good for you and the wife.
Thanks all. The mice ate the front and rear seat. They wanted $3500 to upholster them. I couldnt justify that. The seat are from a 96 delta 88 I had with a bad motor. The fronts are 6-way electric. They were pretty easy to make brackets and mount. The rear was tough cause I had to integrate the two seats together and sew an extension skirt on the cover.
I took the arm rests apart and cut the stitches so I could use the coverings as template patterns. Cut it out and the wife sewed them up. Not easy to sew, good thing the stitches are hidden . All in all it was time consuming but not that hard. However to do it with visible stitches and perfect sewing would be pretty tough I think. So leave that to the pros.
