Technical BUDGET COLUMN DROPS

Honestly didn't think about that. Time to make a trip to the hardware store

 

How bout some 1/8" thick rubber or leather?

 

Budget yes. Timewise no. Made from a chunk of pipe and a shaft collar from a bearing supply house. Going in my Vicky.

 

I modified a Model A drop just like @ClarkH said. Mine was easy to find too, since my car IS a ‘31 Model A.

A hunk of aluminum and a little machining.

 

I’m thinking polish and engine turning.

 

Pretty crafty Johnny, I used a muffler clamp and hid it behind some aluminum for my COE.

 

Thanks Marty. And what a cool hauler that COE is. I'm old enough to remember when the COE trucks and old school busses were affordable, now, holy smokes!

 

This is one I made up myself. I was able to make it exactly to the dimensions I wanted

 

Made this one from a block of aluminum then installed vintage temp gauge in it. 2 in drop to a 37 ford steering. Any body ever seen a 7 gauge Hollywood gauge panel ?

 

How about stop buying crap & fab your own ?

 

You could always just start welding together some left over 1/8" - 3/16" plate. I wanted this one to look sorta factory/utilitarian since it's a truck. Still needs a little finishing work, but it'll get painted black and blend in with the rest of the stuff.

 

Cut 1" off a lower radiator hose and put the column rubber mounted... Works like a charm.

Get into the mind set of making items instead of buying a catalog item that will need to be modified anyway. In the long run your skills will get better and you will save money and not have a bunch of catalog items to sell or store unused.
