@Stovebolt -I can't speak to other pulley setups but I've had a good experience with a couple of Murray Horne's balancers. A little pricey but they take the buzz out of things. And they fit perfect.

Checking in for the month. Don't have much to show for last month had a paying side job that took most of my spare time forgot how tough it is to find 50 spare hours . Started making another custom valve cover. Gots to get humping on the roadster only 6 - 8 weeks till nice weather.

If you can look past the ugly brazed up crack and the extra coolant fitting, just imagine some raised lettering and this head might just resemble a Riley Multi-Ford...?

    like how your thinking John
a filter bracket like the kong i copied would be great and valve cover to match. Next project is a timing cover with a front mount mag and tach drive. banger 1.jpg banger 2.jpg

Got mine out and about for the first time at the weekend. Took it across the border into the USA for an event. Feels good to be out and about in it!

Had lunch with Steve Straw yesterday, he told me that it is penciled in for May 7th, they are working on it. You know the whole thing is run and setup by volunteer's, manpower is a result of availability. I hope it comes off and if you can make it bring all your friends!

  10. If I might add: The Time Trials at the Santa Margarita Ranch in Middle Coast California are penciled in for September 17th of this year. The Ranch owner said just the other day that they should have the place set up to accommodate RV overnight parking and camping for the event.

Ohhhh, would like more info on the adaptation of the 4-speed....really more about the sealing of the back of the block. Looks like a flywheel housing bolted to the block and back of the pan.

  12. I don't know, but I'll ask him next time I see him!

  13. Despite just getting the shipment of aluminum side timing covers, I am back to learning.

Currently I want to create a side driven magneto. From what I've been told mags like to be driven at crank speed. Does anyone have any photos of a side drive that I can use as reference, or any advice? Ideally I would love to reproduce something similar to the "SM" Smiley Martin magneto drive.

Thankyou Callcoy - I really appreciate the information as I'm trying to find information on events I might be able to attend. As I'm located in northern Oregon State, I'd be coming down from about 500 miles to the north. Is there a way to get ahold of Mr Straw? I'd like to keep up on the details. I'll also work on spreading the word. Thankyou as well Old Dawg on the Santa Margarita information. I've been to the RPM Nationals a couple of times, including last fall, and love the location. Its over 800 miles away and considering the way gas prices are going, that alone might be a budget buster for me for this year (the Auburn, CA event may be as well). Still I'd love to attend the Time Trails. I'll keep an eye on that date (and the gas prices).

  15. Glad to see you on the forum! I was the one talking about the footage of your car at the Estranged Drags! How's that B running?

Hi Retson. I remember that conversation and have watched that video several times. Will you make it to the Estranged Drags again this year? The B is running well though its been hibernating since mid-November. We had great weather here last weekend so I fired The BAT up and took her for a drive. Ran great! Ready for some fun this spring, summer, and fall.

This side drive is for a Model T. The spud is roughed out and takes a full width T crank gear. The gear and bearing are a press fit on the spud and the bearing is pressed into the aluminum casting. Most people put a keyway in the spud for the crank gear. The bearing that is on the spud was partially tapped on to check for size.

  21. This year the Time Trials at the Historic Santa Margarita Ranch will be held the weekend before the RPM Nationals. Right now I think some details need to be worked out by the local organizing committee with regard to technicalities with F.A.S.T. Ron Mosher has said that he wants to continue to support the Santa Margarita event. With respect to the price of gas: I just received a shipment of additive for my racing fuel mixture (the basis being gasoline). The price was the same as last year. But we go to Sonoma at the end of April. I'm holding my breath. The gallon price at the pump for race gas last year was $10.00!

  23. I know Steve Serr was working on something similar a while ago. I think the pump he selected had problems running at crank speed.
Ford had a governor assembly that I have seen adapted to an oil pump also.

  24. Despite having a dirty ugly engine, the new aluminum side timing cover fits quite well!

That's about what we are paying for 91 pump gas in New Zealand!
