Hey everyone, my grandfather was a photographer and he got a few jobs photographing things that were used in advertisements. We recently found his portfolio which included an advertisement he did for Sidewinders exhaust. It states that it was advertised in Hot Rod Magazine but I’m not sure which issue. Found a 1971 Nov issue that has Jack Chrisman’s sidewinder on the cover on eBay and messaged the seller but he said the advert was not in that issue. Any Hot Rod magazine fans that can point me in the right direction? This would be a great gift for my mom (and would like a copy myself). Photo from grandpa’s portfolio attached.

  2. Looks like the product was Sidewinder Exhausts.
The company looks like Trend Setter Products.

No relation to Chrisman's sidewinder style drag racer.

  3. I remember seeing these ads in Popular Hot Rodding mags in the early/mid '70s.

It is in multiple mags from mid 70's. I could get a couple of them. I would have dig thru and look but I'm sure I have them. I will check tomorrow.

Even having a range of years to go by is helpful, thanks! If you could find some issues it’s in that’d be great - then I can start tracking down copies. Thanks much, this means a lot.

Makes me very happy my grandpa’s pictures made it in front of so many people - and someone would still remember the advertisement. Thanks for sharing!

Good to know, thanks - I should know more about this but don’t. I’m learning.

  8. Chrisman's sidewinder was HAMB era (pre 1965), sidewinder exhaust is much later, 1970's.

  9. You're forgetting Chrisman's '71 Mustang funny car with the chain-drive sidewinder cammer in it.... Made the cover of Hot Rod.
That car became John Force's first funny....

  10. Yes, I am forgetting that. And I was there the first time Force drove a funny car.

looks like early 70s stuff, and they catered to AMC....and a kind of small company. didn't see any of their ads listed in the advertisers index in the early 70s issues of HRM that I have.

Almost all of my old magazines and books got wet when the storage bulding roof leaked or I'd probably have At least one issue with one of those adds in it.

I don't think those were ever a big seller though. Pretty spendy at the time and rather lame in appearance for most Camaro and early 70's performance car owners went.
