Thinking of doing the flat panels in my deuce roadster in aluminum along with a upholstered seat. Please shoe me your aluminum interiors. Thanks
Gary, I agree with the above comments. Even if you sand with coarse grit to remove all evidence of shine, it will be toasty. However, you know what you are doing, I don't have any pics of what I have done but race car style would be the description. Bead rolled and dzus fasteners to attach were what I used. If you do this, how do you feel about using Haartz convertible cloth material for the seat?
I turned a drag car with aluminum interior into a pro street car. One afternoon of driving and it felt like someone put a metal trash can over your head and hit it with a golf club. I tried everything to quiet it down. Ended up selling the car. Now, you may not have as much in aluminum as I did, just saying I would be cautious. Gene.
The door and quarter panels on my 65 V8 Corvair were bead rolled by another HAMBer to resemble upholstery. With the engine in the back seat, I’m not concerned about any rattles The spiral grooved stainless steel tube is the trunk lid prop.
I have aluminum door panels, seats and dash. I really like the look. It is a little warm on a hot Summer day, but overall it's fine. I do not have dynamat in the car either, so I certainly notice the noise when I hit a bump. I get a ton of compliments and comments. If you're thinking of going with aluminum, I say go for it.
Just a quick question about the seats. They appear to be the Procar rally seats? How do you like them? And how comfortable are they?
Looks nice, but with how tight these cars are, a unsuspecting passenger riding on that side, hit a bump and those louvres will be like a Cheese grater on you knee.
...There is an aviation theme built into this inspired Sport Coupe that plausibly could have evolved post WW11 to its current period of around 1963...Hambers @Koz, @HomemadeHardtop57 and possibly Hamber @VoodooTwin were responsible for the bulk of the interior and exterior aluminum work and riveting while I did the glove box to compliment the theme...The interior is incomplete in places but presents itself well despite that... This is yours truly having a quiet moment with a WW11 Lancaster restoration I worked on loaded with Dome Head rivets from 3/32 to 3/8" dia rivets and .040" skins as an example of my referencing post war Hotrod as an Inspiration migrating to Hotrod including all the Fellas and Gals that came back if lucky using their acquired skills in Aircraft structures to fab and buckle it up...
Yeah, P-51 tail wheel quadrant locks......took the pics to compare how he mounted his to how I mounted mine. His mounting was a little easier/simpler....wish I'd seen it before.
Checked Ebay, some on there now......but very pricey and looks later than mine. I bought mine years ago at a vintage aircraft surplus outfit in Phoenix. Think I paid 10 bucks for the pair, really not knowing how I was going to use em.... shoulda bought all he had. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/332762589824
