Well we finally got in last night after our snafu in KC........we were awaken inthe morning by a phone call from metalshapes, he was at the KOA campground and was having engine issues.........we decided to go out and see if we could give him a hand........it was obvious there was no hope......and the decision was made to pull the engine here so i could haul it back to seattle with me..... nothing left to do but put her in a box and send her home and get back to the festivities
some random shots,, there was some rain in the morning , but it cleared off and was a nice day people rolling all day, by night fall it was getting hard to negotiate the parking lot........... here are some random pics
Sorry to hear about Metalshapes engine woahs. Damn I love that roadster. Y'all have a great time as I am sure you will. Take it easy and stay safe geoff aka whodaky
I hope that Alex takes the motorless roadster to the drags and unloads her so that everyone can see the details on his car. It is one of my HAMB top ten. Chris Nelson Kansas
that car is truly a work of art, and I haven't even had the pleasure of seeing it in person yet...too bad about the engine, but you guys get an A+ on my badass-O-meter for stripping and pulling a motor and loading it onto a pickup in a friggin campground...unfortunately, that's another thing that hot rodding is all about...stripping your car down in strange places to try fixing it...
It couldn't be fixed in time for the Drags. When I drove it from Tucson to Phoenix to meet up with the PHX Crew, it starved the Top End from Oil somehow. ( Maybe a Cam Bearing spun, and blocked the passages. We'll know after RACEFAB has tore her down, and taken a good look at it...) Because the top end didnt get oil, it heated about 1/2 of the rockers enough to discolor, 1 pushrod was blue'd by the heat at least an Inch at the top, and it started to pull some Studs out of the Heads because of the added friction. She wasn't going to race that Weekend... But thats allright. It could have been a lot worse. The Motor didn't let go on the Track oiling it down, and hopefully most parts can be used for the new and improved version. I had a great time traveling with Miles, ElPolacko and Jerry. And I had a lot of fun at MoKan, and the Hotel Parking lot. Acctually, ripping into the Roadster and pulling that Engine at the Campground was cool too... Thanks again guys.
It was good to finally talk with you in person Alex. Beautiful car man... I was really wanting to HUMP IT...
Good to meet you too Rashy... I was hoping I would. As far as next year... We'll see what I'll bring. The Roadster has been to Joplin 3 times now ( one of which it acctually made it on to the Track... ) I'd like to try and get another one running for next year. The 327 that went bad wasn't the Engine that was supposed stay in the Roadster ( I was going to swap it into an other Car after the Drags ) I just stuck it in there because the Blown 283 in my Roadster went bad as well. So now I've got 2 Cars with empty Engine Bays... Oh well... This will give me time to figure out and plan what I'm going to work on next.
It didnt get Oil at the top. So it tore up the Valve train. ( Lots of Blue'd Parts, and Studs coming out of the Heads ) We'll know more once Fred has looked at it, but there is no rush for that. He's got things to do first, and I'll have to save up some Money.
