Technical Dash insert

My buddy gave me this dash insert for my 32,
And neither one of us know what it is, or where it came from.
It's obviously after market, and quite a crude
Casting. Thoughts?

With the slobber in the mounting holes like that, I'd say it's somebody's unauthorized copy of a recent Auburn repro.

 

Clean it up and it will look fine, nobody will see the back. You can get engine turned inserts from FPM in Fairbury Nebraska. They make turned inserts for lots of company's.

 

Yep, I figured it was an Auburn re-pop, but it seems to be kinda old, so I was wondering if it's like a j.c. Whitney thing, or Hank the hotrodder was making them in his garage in the backyard.
The world may never know.
It's rougher than a stucco bathtub.....

 

Looks like one of the pieces from the guy that was getting them cast in Mexico and selling on eBay; same guy that was doing the crude Woods and E&J headlights along with those Buick "Star Wars" air cleaners.

 

Looks like an ashtray I made...
