Some colors look good on one car but don't look right on others. I'd think about photoshopping colors you are considering before you decide. Do your tastes run along the louder colors that scream "hey look at me" or more sedate colors that just look clean and less "in your face". I'm not a yellow fan, but I have to say I have seen some brite yellow vehicles that I thought looked great. The Jeff Lutz 57 Chevy is one that comes to mind. Its really about what color seems to fit each car, so again I would think about photo shop. A color in and of itself may be beautiful but just not right on certain cars.

    Hello,

Color choice for hot rods is difficult. Red attracts everyone. Black is cool but difficult on daily upkeep. We have had both of those colors and over time, it was great, but time consuming almost every weekend. If the black car is driven in a slight mist, there is a fine coat of whatever that sits on the paint and shows up in any sunlight… time for a wash or detail. The same is for any dark color. The good thing is when it is detailed and very shiny, those two colors just look great, compared to any other. Out they go…

Here is my wife’s favorite color for an old car. She especially likes this convertible and if it were for sale, she would but it on the spot. The color is a light grey and in different light, looks like normal grey. Not battleship grey, but in between, with a hint of beige. It definitely looks good on that convertible and it looks like it just came off of the assembly line 82 years ago. Well, except for the hubcaps.

We have owned many different cars over our driving history. My wife likes silver and if that is chosen for the 1934 Ford, the color does make everything stand out and gives a good contrast with black tires and upholstery. Plus, the maintenance is nearly none.
    upload_2022-1-24_5-18-11.png Silver on a 34 Ford

Currently, I have a silver car and it stays cleaner longer than any car, other than my wife’s pearl white fleck station wagon. So, car maintenance is almost down to none and the constant daily upkeep is nil, too. They are not garage queens and we take them out for short errands during these pandemic times.

Before the pandemic, the pearl white paint went through fog, drizzle, downpours and daily road grime. But, during the stop overs, the paint looked like it just stepped out of the garage, ready for more miles of coastal cruising. The windows needed cleaning, but for some reason, the pearl white paint looked great. Its official name is mineral white, but it looks like the old hot rod pearl paint. It stays cleaner, longer than any car we have owned, despite the weather it has absorbed.

As most station wagons are designed and built, the rear gets it share of the old “Kammback” design swirls. The air/road grime movement in the rear is obvious and that is the clean-up portion before we go out for a spin or short drive. YRMV

  16. Years ago I painted my 37 4 door with '71 VW barrier blue. I could not tell you how many comments I received over the years about that unique color. At times it looked like "burple" depending on the sun and the shade that it may have been in. A friend painted his Mustang the same color and it looked flat and dead. A pic from '86 Nats which is OT for this forum but just for color reference, if allowed.

My 32 is a 1930’s Indian motorcycle Navajo blue. If you look at paint chips or colors in general don’t get stuck on just auto colors. 31CB8685-1AB2-4F3F-8739-B0EDB5F38B89.jpeg You said you have one blue car and If I were you I wouldn’t want two blue cars.
My pops and I are teaming up on a 26 T roadster and we have sort of kicked around colors. He has cars that are black, maroon and chickle (sage green) I have brown, blue and one to be painted a deep red color so the T will have to get something other than the colors we already have.

Many years ago Posie did a '34 sedan, and did it in beige/tan. Thinking it might have been the beige that Chevy did pick-ups in. Buckskin was the name I believe. It was one of his best, not kind of outrageous looking, but nice and classy. Just a thought. Tough to make a '34 sedan look bad, but it is possible.

I have to say that the orange on that 32 looks very nice............
That kinda stirred a thought......that may be correct.......or maybe not.........but here it is.

In general it seems to me that fenderless cars built with a somewhat competition theme tend to look better with a brite color
While full fendered cars tend to look better with more sedate colors.

Now I'm not saying this is an absolute "rule of thumb", but more about the overall theme of the car.

    Black looks good on anything.

Man my ride is a kind of gun metal silver, and gets lots of compliments. It's definitely different. Sorry I don't have a good Pic under the sun on my new phone, these don't really do it justice.

Earl Scheib $39.95 Hunter Green on my '65 Galaxy in 1969. It looked okay at night or in the shade but in sunlight, it looked tiger striped. I think the guy who shot it was going straight up and down with a vertical fan.
