Technical 39/40 ford deck lids

Question please are the 1939 and 1940 STD 2 door deck lids interchangable 2 or 4 door ,I know the coupe will not work thanks

 

interchange. If the number in the column is the same for both models, then it interchanges.

 

All sedan deck lids were the same from 38 Deluxe to 1940. Only difference was the location and design of the trunk handle.

38 was low on the lid towards the bottom with a handle that looked like a propeller.

39 was in the same location with a single handle pointing down.

40 was moved up more towards the center of the deck lid with a different handle and base altogether.

any of these deck lids will interchange because the striker and latch are the same.

 

Dani’s correct just the handle locaion are the only difference in part numbers.

I should add one caveat: a convertible sedan decklid will not fit. But I highly doubt you'll accidently run across one of those. The top corners are rounded off, that's how you know it's for a convertible sedan. Right @The 39 guy?
