Very cool build. A shop finally appeared in the pics. Post #4, I thought you guys just chose a spot in the road surrounded by woods and tore the car down. Like moonshiner- car builders.
Great job passing the torch. I have seen this on instagram. Cool to see more photos of the build on here!
Doing some real cheap and easy build techniques. Using angle iron to create the inner perimeter floors. Found a sheet of pre pandemic plywood in my shop. The sections will be bolted down to the angle. Remember this was an old torched/gutted race body so there was no inner structure at all. The wheel wells were cut out, b pillars torched. made a quick pair of bolt in aluminum wheel wheels,,, think I’ll engine turn them.
If you’ve got any other ideas that a photo mock up would be handy let me know. Doesn’t take me very long to do a rough up like I posted. thanks for posting the build I’m really enjoying it
That looks good. Before the top of the nose was too high vs the cowl, at least visually it seemed to run uphill. Now chopped it flows down. I think the track nose matches the rest of the build. The old commercial grille looks more RR style.
I agree...the nose was just propped in place with wood blocks for imagination purpose but it looks much better with the adjustments
Some of it is the low angle the photo was taken from I think. A further back/ standing photo would show us what’s going on a little better but it’s super cool either way you slice it
A few updates on the T we started cutting and welding in some structural steel and adding floors. since this was a gutted race car there were no wheel wells...we made some bolt it aluminum ones,,,did a little free hand engine turning... not too bad.
The donor cowl had no feet and the steering box mount was inside the cowl I made a little cowl mount to support the front.
Kayleigh decided on a 32 shell so I ordered the radiator. It arrived and it was a bit too tall, put the grill shell higher than the cowl ... yuk So I recessed the crossmember, made pockets to lower the radiator,,, kinda killed two birds with one stone because now the outlets on the bottom matched and straight hoses can be used.
I had a re pop 32 shell hanging on the wall. It looked goofy being full height on a 27T , you could see the front u bolts thru it. I removed 2” out of the height, just enough to hide the u bolts.
I liked the track nose and was ready to offer up a Jag style screen grill mesh for it but that cut down 32 shell rocks and screams hot rod. I'm digging that.
I struggled a little with the radiator support rods,,,couldn’t decide what the simplest way was. I had a pair of model A mechanical brake rods in the scrap pile so I used them. Made a pair of quick L brackets, bent the rods and welded a single threaded rod on the other end.
That was very of you I was honestly relieved, the track nose needs a lot of work to be used. Ill make an insert for the 32 with some stainless tube
