Can have a much shorter trans tunnel if I cut this rear lifting tab off...as long as I smoothe the cut out and leave no gouges, you think it OK to remove?
No problem at all except a transmission mechanic that uses the fixture that holds the case there ND in the two holes on the sides won't like it.
How about this vent/filter thing? The 350TH in my F-100 doesn't even have it all all, there's just a hole there. Can I rip it off or is there a low-profile solution? That thing is going to necessitate a big hump in the trans tunnel for clearance. Looks like I may be able to rip that plastic thing out and put one of these in for a lower profile solution... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...jMFXM10--CDXjKojbriVCCrRL9uur-AcaAhEPEALw_wcB Thoughts?
45 degree fitting and a hose? or just take it out and don't worry about any dirt that finds it's way in?
Take it out an put a chunk of lawnmower air filter foam in there. Leave a little sticking out, and don't pack down too much.
Call this one "in the books". The transmission tunnel will be much shorter. Thanks for your help, guys...
I'm working on that right now - I'm going to eliminate the bump on the passenger side to allow for that to be flat, and I'm streamlining the jogged shifter linkage so that I won't have a big bump over the top of that either. From my past experience with Gennie shifters, the metal ring that holds the boot down encompasses that whole entire gob of metal in the center that sticks up. In hindsight, I probably should have gone with a Lokar dipstick tube, but I wanted to keep it as traditional looking as possible
the long metal tube is just an older version of the vent. Look for an early transmission if you want one (they started making the TH350 for 1969 model year cars). But I like gimpy's suggestion the best....
Needed a vent tube the TH350 (1969 unit) for red 56. When shopping for one I purchased a modern plastic one because "Application" chart covered them all year by year.
You know you are going to have leave some space around the tunnel for both physical and air movement.
Yes, I 3D printed a bunch of 1/2" tall pyramid shaped spacgap, that I'm going to tape to the transmission to keep a minimal gap. I made the flange template with almost no gap, then will try the excess when it's all welded up.
I think I would fix a fitting it the vent hole and attach a short hose pointing down or back, if it were me. Bones
