Features Dressed flatheads

"50 merc man" - That appears to be a stock Ford "Load-a-matic" distributor on the engine pictured in your post, paired with an Edelbrock 4-BBL carburetor. I can't trace where the vacuum line from the distributor leads. Could you clarify how it is connected? The engine looks great; how does the car run with this arrangement?

To accommodate the linkage setup, I turned the carburetor (edelbrock) around and run that vacuum line up in it that way, I converted from points to electronic ignition with a pertronix setup, runs strong and dependable

If that is truly a "Load-a-Matic" distributor and it runs well in this setup, it's good news for flathead guys. Is it actually plumbed into the ported vacuum on the carburetor? I don't know much about Edelbrock carburetors, so I have no idea of the available vacuum ports, but if there is a usable signal for a stock distributor, it'll solve a lot of problems.

Running carburetors mounted backwards seems to be a common solution these days. As I said, I've little experience with Carters or Edelbrocks, but running a Rochester backwards on a flathead makes everything but the manual choke fall right in place.

 

Yea it’s an electric choke, runs pretty damn good, edelbrock 500 cfm, doesn’t flatten out at all at high rpms either, I’m definitely happy with it

 

here is mine when it was fresh. Has been posted before. Doesn’t look quite as nice now but still looks good.

 

Would it be possible for you to post a photo of where the vacuum line from the distributor connects to the carburetor? It would be quite helpful.

Dressed up for go, not for show....This lowly "60" would flash 110mph on the reader board at the end of the first straight at Laguna Seca on every lap. It bellered like a big dog, and was more fun than is allowed in some states.

 

That is awesome. I love those heads on the 60’s.
