I used to live next door to a Buddhist monk and as such I learned his traditions and ritual practices, while my neighbors on the other side had no exposure and little clue to the goings on. Such is the case with my neighbors to the North today. "Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated the day after Christmas Day, occurring on the second day of Christmastide. Though it originated as a holiday to give gifts to the poor, today Boxing Day is primarily known as a shopping holiday. It originated in the United Kingdom and practiced today in a number of countries that previously formed part of the British Empire."
Thanks 5150... Yes...the day the goodies go back in the box and back to returns... Naww...just kidding my presents are keepers... Pre to. And it Billy’s explanation... Traditionally leftovers were “boxed” up and given to the poor and/or the “poor boxes” were opened up and the co tents were given to the poor. Growing up for me it was a nice, quiet, no obligation day as a counter point to the craziness of Christmas Day. Then it went into more commercialism with heavily discounted sales. I wonder if the Black Friday thing was modelled after it? Nowadays it great leftovers and playing with my toys... Every country should have one!
Yes you fellas have it very different without a doubt but there is an ambience to winter that is refreshing, peaceful, beautiful and worth at least visiting for an unforgettable reality for many... I've been running the airtight woodstove for a change this winter and it is fitting part of the experience I describe...love the rolling flames swirling around the varied hardwoods... A Seasonal Cheers to all my Warmer Climate Hamber Friends... Enjoy the smell of that fresh cut grass...
