    Not really.

I just got a shipment of parts from my local foundry that I'd been waiting on for a couple months. Cast in 356 aluminum, no beer cans involved. A new version of my Pierce Arrow dash panel I had a few years ago, and a rear cover for a quickchange.

The dash panel is my new Pierce Narrow (tm), very similar in style to the last one but down-sized to fit completely on the face of a '32 dashboard. No more hanging below the bead. I'd consider it a five gauge panel, but creative guys might layout other arrangements. I'll have an ad in the classifieds once I get the casting flash off them.

The rear cover is for a recreation of an ancient constructed quickie that my brother and I are going to be making with our machinist wizard buddy. This is the first draft, to check for sizing and set up machining fixtures and tooling. I've propped it up to the old original center so you can see what they will look like. We'll probably make a few for our own cars, and my nephew's '32 pickup currently under construction.

    Nice 356 castings!

I hear of people making castings at home from beer cans, but surely starting with cast aluminum such as old pistons or transmission cases would be preferred.
Kind of like trying to make iron castings from sheet steel.

Is the Pierce Arrow dash panel a limited production piece like the other? If so, how many.

    These are not limited editions.

I make all my patterns. I use loose patterns, not plate patterns. The foundry I use doesn't mind my small quantities.

I haven't made the Stude taillights in a couple years. I still get requests almost every week though. Making the same thing over and over can get old, so it's fun to make something fresh.

I've always been curious what foundry you used. There's one about 15 mi from me that does small runs.

Does your QC have bearings in the rear cover, or utilize a dog bone to hold the bearings ? Great looking pieces, by the way !

Beautiful. Happy you have a foundry willing to work with you, hard to find in general and right now there's a lot of work available.

The original was incomplete, but it did use a loose dogbone bearing holder which we didn't have. I've modified the cover by building bosses inside the backside to machine for bearings. All the "modern" quickchanges use the bearings in the cover so I thought that would be easier.

    Final results still to come.
