I have a 31 ford roadster I’m setting onto a Z rear 32 frame. I Currently have the brookville model A subrails attached except where the rails meet the wheel wells. I did that on purpose because I knew eventually I would need to modify the rails to accommodate the Z.

my question is what’s the best way to attack this? I’m thinking of cutting the rails at the beginning of the Z. Sit the body down, bolted with mounts, for mock up. Then mold the cut off piece of rail to the Z. But do I weld the rails to the wheel wells at the height of the Z or do I weld to the bottom of the wheel well by adding metal and have a void between the rail and wheel well?

then how do I finish the rails to the rear body? Being Z, the rails will end up right behind the rear bottom deck lid, almost the top. It’s the same options as the rails to wheel wells.

  4. I've helped my kid with a few; contoured some 3/16" flat bar to sit on top off the frame; tied to the front sub-rail on the front and into the rear body cross-rail in the rear. A second piece of 7 ga sheet was fitted outside of this that extended to lower edge of wheel well forming an inverted L; both the L and wheel well were notched and finished as needed for axle clearance. These were on regular deuce rails; a Z'd frame may vary; but should be similar.

Thank you. So it’s best to do an inverted “L” and weld to the bottom of wheel well?

So any follow up? I've got my two last pieces of my Brookville rails on the way and looking at everything related.

Thanks for those pics....ill give them a study. As far as selling the car....I'm there as well. A pretty little 30 coupe popped up so the Sport couoe has got to go. Oh well, releasing her back to the wild soon better than I found her. I can still sleep at nite. Merry Christmas!
