Story Time: As a kid, my grandpa always had a metal sign displayed in his driveway that read ‘57 Chevy Parking Only - All Others Will Be Towed’. I remember it like it was just yesterday, I would walk by it everyday when I’d get off the bus from elementary school. I was cruising Facebook Marketplace earlier this week and listed under ‘Listings From Further Away’ I seen a 57 Chevy sign for $10 and I thought it would be cool because it reminded of the sign that he had - so why not? I clicked on it, and thought it was a little strange that it was from the same town that my grandparents lived in. I contacted the seller, agreed to buy it and was just curious what the origin of it was, and to my surprise she said she just found it in her attic. I was pretty intrigued at this point, I mean what are the odds that this sign I remember from 20-30 years ago could actually be the exact same sign? Even if she did have it, what would be the odds that she just now found it after all of these years and listed it and Facebook decided to ‘recommend’ it to me today? One in a million? A billion? Sure enough, I had goosebumps when her address was actually my grandparents old house. She was as amazed as I was, and of course she gave me the sign and a few other things that had been left behind. I wouldn’t describe myself to be someone who believes in a ‘divine intervention’ or anything of that sort but it really makes you think that this sign really needed to be with me, even to this day I would still think it about it from time to time.

It appears that you have the same plate that was on your grandfathers car? Was that one of the items that the lady gave you or had that been saved and handed down? What ever the case, a neat story, I'd like to have a grandchild like you:)

I wish it was the same one but his disappeared after he passed away. Earlier this year I used one of those online companies where you pick the state/year and they make you a novelty plate. It is pretty good quality though.

The plate says ‘Her Mink’ because way back in the day (I would guess 70s or early 80s) my grandma was saving her money for a mink coat. My grandpa instead used that money to buy a ‘55 Chevy. So he got the plate ‘Her Mink’ and used it on up until the late 90s from what I remember as a kid. So, I’ve always thought that was cool and used it in a few places with my cars - my Model A’s name was The Her Mink Roadster.

    Serendipity at work. :)

Just imagine how many pieces had to fall in place. You had to go looking for more info, you had to recognize the address, she turned out to be a nice lady. Happy ending.

  29. Very cool! Pretty sure that was meant to be and that divine intervention had everything to do with it. Congrats on getting your grandpa’s sign!
