Hey, all – been far too long since I've started a thread, but can't think of a better reason to get back in the saddle. Started a podcast for Hemmings called HOT ROD BBQ (if you have the premiere issue of GARAGE magazine, you might recognize the title) and I couldn't think of a better guest than Ryan, right? So, dig into this and let the comments fly – I'll respond to all of 'em... https://www.hemmings.com/stories/20...amb-ryan-cochran-hemmings-hot-rod-bbq-podcast
Nice job, guys ! The curtain has been pushed back a bit. One thing, though....... y'all are the old guys? shit...... whippersnappers
Very entertaining and insightful. Key points I took away were the fact that the price of admission for young people to the traditional scene is very high and you’re both graybeards! Those of us that are really old got in the game when you could still buy a Model A that was a true driver with paperwork for less than a $100.
Only in dog years. Like we talked about in the 'cast; I ain't my dad's 50, but we realize we're not 25 anymore, either...
I think it's still possible to build a hot rod on the cheap, but I'm not a good example of that: hell, I'm STILL building my T coupe, but that's partly because I just had to have certain parts and found out the hard way that the guys selling those parts know they got me by the short and curlies. Like Keith Tardel once said, "If you have to have it, you have to have it..."
And now that the world is starting to get back to normal, we gotta do it IN. PERSON. It only took a year of a lock-down to realize I'd been squandering precious days...
On the question of what will happen to the sport/hobby when electric vehicles rule the road; I think gasoline powered cars will still be around, but much in the same way horses are today. They are no longer useful as transportation or for moving heavy things around, but there is still an active niche of ‘horse lovers’ who appreciate them and who are quite active in promoting the love of horses. Perhaps our traditional hot rods will follow a similar path.
I mean POSTED HERE! I know it is also on IG but some of these folks need to start posting here again.
Very cool, I watched the video all the way through, very enjoyable, watching two old friends reminisce a bit and talk about the growth of the traditional hot rod scene, where it came from and where it's going. Nice discussion. And it was good to meet you.
Well finally, I’ve been here since 2006 and this is the first time I have seen and heard Ryan. I enjoyed the video. Thank you!
Nice to See (and Hear) The Man Behind The HAMB/ Jalopy Journal! I will tell you that I Almost met him at the 1st Rodder's Journal Revival. I saw his Riviera and even hung by it for a while, but how do you meet someone if you don't even know what they look like?! It's All Good! Stoner, really enjoyed the podcast.
Ugh... To be fair, I had no idea the video from the zoom was going to be used. I thought it was an audio only podcast... So lucky that I didn't pick my nose throughout that thing...
