Hot Rods 1931 Pontiac build - 22 years and counting

Mounting the headlights was the next chore. We modified the original headlight bar and designed and fabricated stands to hold the Guide lights.

Ironic that in the middle of fixing all the wood framing on the car, you had to fix a bunch of wood framing for the garage.

Amazing journey through wood and steel! Wood work was riveting, an artisan trade in itself!
The method of using tube-and-metal for fairings, especially on the dash bezel is sure to become a standard...
really liked the exhaust tips and tubing uses, but the dedication to Pontiac/Olds machinery is refreshing, just look at the beauty of these pieces.
Kudos, for sure.

A little more progress. ‘58 Bel Air taillights (I like that ‘60’s showrod look they have) and the front spreader bar made from a Model A brake bar.

That spreader bar just works! It flows so nicely with the bottom of the grille. What a great idea!

 

That spreader bar really fits the style for sure. I used the same on my current build but finished it with oval bumper bolts that I had lying around for years from my parts store days. They would be in keeping with those beautiful head light stands you have. (IMHO)

 

I just saw this thread for the first time. Nice job on the build as well as documenting and bringing us along!

 

I’ve seldom seen this done on cars, but it probably should be mandatory on high-boys.
Simple, practical, effective and looks good.
And now I when I see one I will not question why the guy has put a heat shield over his steering joint !

I like the headlight stands, - different and like everything else on this build, very well thought out and neatly executed.

I had not seen this thread before today and I think I just used up my monthly allotment of like buttons. Color me impressed!

 

I did some of the less glamorous tasks (with some help from my son-in-law) of working on the transmission, brake, and fuel lines.

 

Also built an exhaust system using pipe sections my brother had accumulated over time and mufflers I had won a number of years ago at a car show. Tips are modified 1970 Olds 4 4 2 pieces.

 

More plumbing. We changed the fuel lines and added a filter.
We also dealt with the sides of the gas tank cover. The original sides looked unfinished without the rear fenders and didn’t fit too well with the exhaust so we cut them off and my brother fabricated replacements by hand.

1964 Cadillac AC vents with handformed housings to mount them under the dashboard.

 

and here i thought they were taillights like the ford trk. on the other thread!

 

I constructed a housing to mount the wiper switch above the windshield on the header panel. The chrome bezel is from a Bronco and the chrome arm is part of a mid-‘60s Pontiac power antenna switch.

 

Added an early ‘60s VW backup light and my brother fabricated 2 plates to cover the areas left open where the spare tire bracket was mounted.
