Technical 48 Flathead to 80 C4

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Scooterville, Dec 2, 2021.

  1. Question. I have a 39 Ford Deluxe Tudor running a 48 Ford Flathead v8 with an 80 Ford C4 auto. It’s a Flat O matic conversion kit which I was told was installed 15 years ago.
I believe the flex plate is bad. Would it require a special plate from Flat O or can I just order one online according to the year trans I have? I do plan to call flat o when they open but figured I’d post here too. Thanks.

    Special flex plate. Call Flat-O-Matic.

They have a habit of cracking around the mounting holes

If the transmission is not on center to the flahtead block the flex plate will crack. The flex plate will last forever once the center line is corrected. That's not an easy task but its an important one.
