Greetings, I purchased a 'basket case" 1936 Chevy 1/2 ton low cab truck. I have several pieces with casting numbers that I was hoping someone might be able to share if they are year correct. Bellhousing: GM 839257 Clutch fork: 838711 Flywheel: 838663 Thank you kindly for any information.
Look for the casting dates on the parts....they are of the form: Letter = month (A=January, B=February, C=March, etc) Number one or two digits = day of the month Number, one or two digits = last digit(s) of the year so E 15 6 would be May 15, 1936 (or 1946, etc) Also, spend a lot of time getting to know this document. It's a great help. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_41/index.html .
Thank you for that recommendation! It is my understanding that the previous owner was attempting to change the clutch/throw out bearing/fork to a newer model, in order to replace the carbon fiber bearing as well as the difficult to find clutch.. He had an additional bellhousing in the mix, #838533. My goal is to restore the truck to original as much as possible. Just trying to see if all of these parts are compatible. Again, thanks for your prompt reply.
Pictures! Pictures! Pictures! Show us the stuff in question. I'm not so good at identifying stuff, but some of these guys are walking encyclopedias and can offer great info and support!
